I still could not grasp the idea of Woofies...
Why is it so popular? It does not look like very geeky thing.

It's not geeky at all. It's scandinavian design - that's part of the attraction, and it's sort of geeky in a way when it's glamorous to be geeky (not because of any qualities that this plastic piece of crap has, but judging from the way it's being positioned)... fake stuff, but attractive.
