A friend of mine recently expressed concern that I was so upset about Snape's death in the upcoming Harry Potter film that I wouldn't go see the movie at the theater because I wanted to "mourn" his death on screen in private. I understand what you mean completely, and don't think it's an overreaction at all. It's amazing to me how much a part of the tapestry of our lives fandom becomes, even when we don't realize it, and sometimes long before we were even aware what "fandom" was. I've been shaped and molded by so many things and I know for a fact that I wouldn't be the person I am without them, wouldn't see or comprehend or feel other aspects in life had I not experienced those parts of my heart that have become such an extension of myself. There are several tiers of them that each affect me differently, but I wouldn't trade a single one of them. There are one or two specifically that are always there, always coloring my reactions and the things I do, even when I don't acknowledge them and don't talk much about them anymore - they're the silent flames that keep me going. I'm naturally a very passionate and emotional person (read: weepy. xD), and I'm also naturally a person who seeks out truth/insight analytically, digs for the meaning and beauty underneath ( ... )

You just said it so beautifully. :) I wouldn't trade a second in fandom either...both the laughter and the tears are things that I treasure.
