I love how the takeaway from the Lot story is icky butt-sex is wroooooong. But nobody bats an eye at the incest, even though if you look at the translation, icky-butt sex never happened.

And woah, I never thought that about the Isaac and Abraham story. Most Xians depict Isaac at around 10, although I've seen depictions where he's younger. Either way, it's still...woah....I mean, mostly the take on it is: Look at Abraham, so awesome for being willing to sacrifice his own son on faith...

On the other hand...it's "Holy crap! Abraham is such a douche for willing to kill his own kid just coz God Says So. Who the hell DOES that???

There are entire tomes written on the binding of Isaac. It's generally viewed as a not good thing in Judaism. I also forgot to mention the whole thing about after Sarah dies, the first thing Abraham does is negotiate a land deal. I think in general, he did care for Sarah, but it isn't how we look at love today.

See, Abraham and Isaac has always been problematic for me -- and every other Jew I know. And we read it every year on the high holidays. (It's part of the Rosh Hashana readings.)
