No angels in Supernatural?

Feb 04, 2007 23:33

I just finished watching Supernatural(2x13) and I have to admit that I have been very surprised about what we learn about Dean and Sam's view on religion.

After catching up with the reviews on my flist I realize that this is a sensitive topic for some of you. Therefore my views and questions go ( under the cut )

spn, wondering about fandom

Religion is a touchy subject and I would suspect that is part of it. But also, there has to be a good side to counteract all the evil they face.

Maybe we are getting the one side of things. Evil. Possibly this was an indication from this episode that good and spiritual things do make a difference in the world, there is just so much evil it seems to drown all the good out in light of the things the Winchesters face everyday. I don't know.

Poor Sam, though. He wants so badly to believe that there is something good and it will save him from what he is expecting to become. I have read several speculations in discussion of this episode that maybe Sam will not turn out to be as terrible and evil as we think. He is the main character of the story. This could be misleading on purpose to keep us guessing. Poor Dean for wanting nothing more than to protect and watch over Sam and Sam tells him he's only one person.

I just wonder if we won't look back when more questions are answered and say yeah, I remember that, why didn't I figure this out

It makes sense that Sam and Dean would think that the evil seems to outweigh the good based on what they experience every day. But that's because they actively pursue the bad and evil things wandering this world although I also understand that this would make it hard for them to have faith. It's just that Dean's complete denial of the existence of the Light Side made no sense to me.

I haven't read any spoilers, I only have seen the promos for the next episode but I can't see Sam going completely evil. It looks like he will be possessed by a demon next week which would mean an external evil source taking over and not the evil within himself. But like I said, I haven't read anything and that's just my guess basing on the pics. I'm sure they will keep Sam struggling through the season but the ultimate choice will be his own, they can't simply force him to be evil.
I felt bad for Dean, too. Sam was basically saying that he is not enough. :(
