I had a similar situation this Thanksgiving. No one fell ill or anything. My mom just caused a lot of (financial) trouble for our family, and so my dad ended up apologizing to my sister and me about not having a Thanksgiving feast. My dad later told me that he felt as though I was the only person who understand the gravity of the situation because my sister complained that we sucked the fun out of life when we prevented her from shopping on Black Friday. =/

It sounds like you did a lot of supporting your family even when certain family members weren't being supportive.

Since I don't know your family at all, I can only say that I am sorry for your misfortunes. I will, however, say that from my POV it seemed like your siblings were being very cold towards your grandmother's plight. Could it be because you all did not spend much time with her? I know that I don't know a LOT of my family members, so when I hear that something has happened to them, while I am sad, I cannot feel a deep sense of loss as if would if I had known them personally.

I hope next year's Thanksgiving goes better for your family.

She used to live with us, and eventually she got her own place. We visited her once a week at some point, so I don't think it's because we didn't see her often. I think it's because when we were there, they were often bored at her place, and found little to no attachment to her. While I do understand their dislike of her, or perhaps indifference due to her mannerisms and attitude (she wasn't exactly the nicest cup of tea) I just feel you shouldn't be like that, especially when grandmother now can barely remember half the things she says or does...

Thank you, I hope so too, but it really wasn't too bad, I guess because I wasn't in a terrible mood.

Oh, I'm glad to hear your mother is going to the wedding.

I'm sorry you had to go through that, especially during a time in which you are supposed to be celebrating with your family rather than dealing with health crises and relatives who are a hindrance rather than a help.

My grandmother had a stroke a few years ago, and while strokes affect people differently, the complications from a stroke affect a person for the rest of his or her life. It permanently left my grandmother with broken speech and has caused her to say some very hurtful things to certain family members. Fortunately, she does have people living with her and doesn't need 24 hour supervision, so I won't pretend it's even remotely the same situation, but I can sympathize.

By the way, I'd better warn you. Phantom Hourglass is crack. Literally. You pick it up ONCE and play it and you will be hooked. Not only is it very innovative with regard to the DS's features, it is the best Zelda game in a very long time and contains a LOT of old-school aspects with new school extras.

It's okay. Thanks, though. I just think it would have been nicer on my mother if my sister wasn't being so... dumb.

My grandmother lost memories and can't remember half of what she does. She temporarily had no feeling in her left side, I think... but that happened a year or two... or longer ago, I forget. I can imagine it's probably affecting her now in some way-- she recently started eating more, which is good, but her gaining more weight is causing stress on her weak bones and muscles.

Oh, does that mean you have a friend code?

*hugs* Thankies, Lyssette!

When did you get it? It was just cheaper on that day since it was on sale and Black Friday... it was the last one, too.
