They provide support for students and researchers in social sciences and humanities, fields that, unlike science, business and other direct money-generating fields, rarely get any support at all.

Man, the study of Humanities simply doesn't get the respect it deserves! It's the same here in Israel because this country is so high-tech and all... I'm not Canadian, but I understand your irritation as a Humanities student. Good luck, I hope they cancel it because, seriously, SSHRC is called like that for a reason!

Hopping and signing. They have already limited the money going to the sciences (which effects me directly) and now this.... *insert very strong Quebecois swear words here*

I'm already touchy about this sort of thing because the John Molson School of Business keeps sending me e-mails saying "you have high marks, come to our open house for a Masters in Science Administration". Yes, because I am taking all these science courses just so that I can be a manager... right!
