I never would have thought that this song would work for Dark Angel (too poppy, not grungy enough) although it does have that urban city life tone that Lily Allen does. You made the bounciness work and turned the grimness of reality into a breezy afternoon cycle ride. The pushbike bell ringing sound throughout the song just added to that.
Thank you so much! I felt the song worked because it really is just like the show - everyone puts up a happy facade (especially Alec and Max in the first season) but when you strip away the layers (look twice), everyone's got a dark place - the song is bouncy, but behind the bounciness, the lyrics are quite dark.
Interesting music choice -- the lyrics fit the show so well but the tune is so bouncy. It's a fun way to review the series though, which is generally anything but!
I felt the juxtaposition of the bouncy music with the darker lyrics were very much like the show - especially Max's quote 'they call this a great depression, but people are anything but depressed'. Everyone on the show puts up a facade (especially Alec), but when you dig a little deeper, they all have a dark place... and that really is just like the song.
