What Ray was doing this morning and afternoon is probably best left unasked, but tonight he's out by the lake on an even patch of ground. He's got the training drone, he's got the lightsabre... and he's wearing his proton pack over his civilian clothes.

This should be entertaining.

And, well, it probably isn't a surprise that he's being watched. Qui-Gon is leaning against a tree simply observing. He might have something on his mind. Or perhaps not.

No, it is not. It should also not be a surprise that Ray doesn't notice, because Ray is thick that way, and because Ray is to Force sensitivity as oyster is to mountaineering.

For someone who's got a forty-pound load strapped to his back he seems to be doing remarkably well against the drone. Qui-Gon probably noticed some weaknesses and overly ambitious movements in his earlier practice sessions with Ray. The over-movement isn't there any more- or rather, if it is, the weight and its positioning are canceling each other out. Quite simply, Ray is used to taking on opponents with that thing's weight pushing him around- mind and muscle alike have the memory engraved into them.

Not to say that the drone isn't still zapping the crap out of him. It's not like he's miraculously developed m4d j3d1 pr3m0n1t10nz or anything. He's just moving in a way he knows most properly, now.

Qui-Gon just watches for a moment, and when a pause in Ray's practice presents him an opportunity, he wanders over, shutting off the remote with the Force. "Good evening, Padawan. Your practice is going quite well, I see."

"Yeep!"

Ray's instinctive response to the intrusion is to jump backwards, hard- he's trying to get out of range of the remote. It takes him half a second to realize it's been shut off and who's done it. He wobbles a little, but keeps his footing as he shuts off the blade.

"Um, yeah. I- I've been working and I realized that there was something fairly important I had to take into account-" He jerks his thumb over his shoulder. "In any situation in my world where I might conceivably have need of the 'sabre I'm almost certainly going to be stuck wearing one of these and not be able to get rid of it, for whatever reason. I thought I should attempt to mimic the conditions, especially since I kind of volunteered to repay Andrew Wells' help in saving a world I visited by going with him to his to hold off that demon army thing that's coming to pay a visit."

Somewhere Preston's mun is torturing him with the Elephant Love Medley from Moulin Rouge, however this thought is only vaguely unsettling, so in a fit of restlessness Preston's been outside wandering.

Alternating between the Gun Kata and in general meditation Preston spots a familiar shape-although somewhat bulkier then average.

He cocks his head and stares at Ray, watching him work-careful not to disturb.
An expert at making himself invisible when he wants to be. Preston knows better then to disturb a warrior at practice.

Honestly, it's a wonder Ray's lasted as long in New York City as he has. With his level of obliviousness he should've been dragged into a dark alley and stripped down for parts a long time ago.

On the other hand he's finally moving properly. When you spend two years and more in pitched battles two or three times a week where every move you make requires the presence of forty pounds of load strapped to your back, it affects pretty much everything else physical you do. Ray has a flying enemy in front of him, a weight behind him, and an energy weapon in his hand- about the only difference between this and his daily work is that the sphere isn't going to dive down and slime him, and that the lightsabre is rather easier to wield than the proton thrower.

He's still getting hit, of course, but he's getting out of the way much more smoothly and his deflection rate is somewhat higher because his feet know how to fall now.

Preston watches, and there's a tinge of something...envy? at how Ray's moving. Preston suddenly realizes that he knows nothing of Ray's past. Simply his job and...

So he watches, content not to disturb although curious about the device on his back and why he's wearing it.
And more aptly. Preston thinks, Why he's not in practice clothing..

He might feel the intense weight of the Cleric's stare.

Yeah, let's face it; ordinary eyes wouldn't make it through, but this is Preston we're talking about, and not noticing that he's Observing you is like not noticing that Egon has his eyes on the last Twinkie in the fridge. Ray pauses, then scrambles backwards quickly, standing outside the drone's sensor range until it switches itself off and drops to the ground. He shuts off the 'sabre, stashes it in a pocket, and turns in Preston's direction.

"Evening, Cleric. How's it going?"
