Alain's keeping half an eye out for Lilly. She spent most of the day in his room, but by the time he got back from chores she'd left.

He's also keeping an eye out for any friends who still need to be told.

Meanwhile, though, he's taken up residence on the usual couch, and is rolling himself a cigarette.

And a little clockwork bird strolls along the back of the couch. When did it get there, one wonders?

Almost disturbing as that damn rook's skull, isn't it, Alain?

Rather more so, in fact.

Alain eyes it.

Eventually it totters to a halt, wings stopped in mid-flap. Then it slowly slides off the back of the couch, heading towards the floor behind.

Odd, that it never hits the ground.

It's probably a good thing that Alain is one of the members of the ka-tet-that-was who never actually had first-hand experience with dying robots.

He does notice the lack of impact, yes.

Either the thing can actually fly, or there's someone there to catch it -- and catch it well, for him not to hear.

He waits to see which.
