Alain is sitting on the usual couch, coffee in hand. He's reading a new book, a collection of philosophical essays written in the Great Letters of Mid-World. Alain doesn't agree with the author on much, but mentally picking apart his arguments is a reasonable distraction way to spend an evening.

From the bar, Cuthbert turns and heads toward the couch, not seeing Alain at first.

When he does, he hesitates.

He wanted to talk to Alain earlier. That was before he talked to Eddie.

After a moment, he makes up his mind, and continues toward the couch.

Alain glances at him, with the start of a smile. It shifts into a look of faint questioning concern when he takes a better look at Cuthbert.

Cuthbert sinks onto the couch next to him, looking more tired than anything.

"So. Talked to Eddie, recently?"

Ah.

Alain looks more tired too, suddenly.

"Yar."

Peter sits down next to him. Whiskey-laced tea, now, instead of coffee.

He's here to talk, but he doesn't know how to start.

Alain glances at him. Faintly surprised -- it's maybe the first time Peter's approached him in the bar -- but not unwelcoming.

"Long days and pleasant nights."

There's a sinking feeling of the inevitable; he thinks he knows what topic is about to come up.

"She came to see me, last night," Peter says, without preamble. "The wolf is chasing her. Though I suppose you already know that."

There's a trace, just a trace, of bitterness in his voice.

Alain notices the bitterness, and wonders at it. But doesn't visibly react.

"In the Dreaming."

He glances down, at his coffee, and nods a little.

"Aye."
