OoM: Michael, Maria and Faith visit Amy DeLuca. All goes well, then Michael goes on an errand for Amy...

The door opens from Roswell, New Mexico, and three people come in.

Only two of them are the ones who left: Maria and Faith. The third isn't Michael, but Amy DeLuca.

All three are pale, with a varying mixture of anger, shock and grief.

What's Amy doing here?

And where's -- oh, shit.

Max, noticing them come in, jumps from his seat and runs over.

"Maria? Faith? - hi, Ms DeLuca - where's Michael?"

He's trying to sound calm. Note that he's only trying. Sometimes even Max Evans' composure goes straight out the window.

See that expression? That's the 'Faith is blaming herself' face.

"Taken," she says, quietly. "By these guys in a dark van. I tried to stop them...I threw Mrs. DeLuca's car at them, but it didn't...I wasn't fast enough. To stop them."

A beat, and her hands clench into fists. "He's alive. They...they took him alive."

Taken.

That means one thing.

(white like nothing)

"It ... it's not your fault, Faith, you tried --"

Max's voice is failing him, but his eyes communicate all. He doesn't blame Faith. He understands. He's not upset with her. He owes her for trying.

His mental voice, however, is becoming overactive.

Isabel! Max screams, out to his sister's head, Isabel, can you hear me? Where are you? Izzy, I need you NOW!

She's probably gone back to New York. Maybe. At any rate, Max's mind scrolls through every name he's connected with, everyone who could help --

Mouse! Havelock! Ford! He falters. ... Liz? Someone, anyone, PLEASE.

Telepaths beware the screaming, scared King.

Ford was slowly limping down the stairs at that particular moment. The shout in his head is so strong and loud that it literally knocks him back a step. Unfortunately, because the stair was behind him, this means he falls backwards and slides down the remaining steps on his rump.

A moment later, though, he's up and rushing across the room. "What's happened?" he says to the assembled mass of broken expressions.
