Khayman has come in all on his own.

He leans against a pillar and watches people, idly, the way you watch ducks in a pool.

He's not feeding them, though.

"Have you seen my best friend Hippo, Mr. Big Teethy Man?" says the small boy who looks kind of like a panther in a spacesuit.

"I don't know him," Khayman says reasonably.

This person looks like a minature Egyptian god. Somehow reassuring.

"I was taking him to my school pet show, but this isn't a school pet show. It's too dark." He starts sniffling. "And I'm afraid of the dark."

Not an Egyptian god, then.

"So that hippo is an animal?" Khayman half-asks, half-states.

"It is not all that dark," he then tries reassuring the small creature. "Can you find the exit?"

He smiles in a friendly way, hoping his teeth don't frighten.
