One of the slogans for Milliways once upon a time was "If you've done six impossible things this morning, why not round it off with breakfast at Milliways?" The Doctor's not sure he's accomplished six today, but he figures it's close enough for a drink. So before the Clerics arrive to collect River, he leads her and Amy through the TARDIS hallways ( Read more... )

Amy was actually in the Bar just once, quite a while ago. But, as with most bizarre things in her life, it was discounted and relegated to that part of her experiences everyone always told her was imaginary.

After all, a strange Bar behind her bedroom door is as unbelievable as a crazy man in a blue box.

So she stops and stares for a moment. "So this really was real, too?"

The Doctor turns and stares at her with his best "well, duh" expression. "Oh, Amy. You should know by now that everything is real somewhere."

She tilts her head at him a little. "What, so you're saying there's some planet out there with the Easter Bunny?"

"Tritannus," he says immediately. "We can go if you like, but the smell there has the tendency to... linger."

There is something shaped like a cat perched on the bar nearby, tail coiled about his paws as he watches them enter. The Doctor, he recognizes. Not so much by smell, but it translates to something similar enough to be called scent. The others are unfamiliar.

But the fact that there is trouble with the door as they enter - an all-too-common occurrence of late - makes him narrow his spring-green eyes in concern. And the Tarot cards expect him to stand by and do nothing.

There is a definite tension around here that the Doctor's not used to. He takes a seat next to Yrael with his back to the bar, and begins idly scritching behind the not!cat's ears.

The rumbling, deep purr that answers the Doctor's scritching is the purr of a chaos-monster in a fuzzy, catlike shell, taking solace in small pleasures while his home apparently falls to bits around him.

"So, what's been going on here? Everyone's so jumpy. There hasn't been another of those clock things, has there?"

Borgel turns his head and smiles broadly. He smiles at lots of people. Especially people he likes. Perhaps he recognizes a kindred spirit.

"Yes! Here we are indeed! 'Here' is usually a fine place to be, wouldn't you agree?"

"'Here' is almost always the best place to be," the Doctor agrees. "Even if 'there' looks better, by the time you get there, it's 'here'."

"Which is what makes it such a splendid place to call home," he says, "because you can go wherever you like and never have to leave. Me, I was born in the Old Country. But I've lived 'here' all my life."

Borgel's smile broadens as he extends a hand. "My name is Borgel" - he makes an untranslatable guttural sound that sounds nothing like "MacTavish" but even less like anything else. "I am a time tourist."

The Doctor grins in return and shakes the hand vigorously. "A time tourist! Oh, I like that! Very glad to meet you, Borgel" -- he copies the "MacTavish" sound precisely. "I'm the Doctor."

Teja is sitting by the fireplace, brooding over a mug of tea (even Goths adapt to some modern things here), and looks up when he notices the interrupted entrance.

"Greetings," he says, getting up. "It is not supposed to do that."

He touches the door.

The Doctor looks back at the door. "Oh, I'm sure it's nothing. Amy's just had a tough day."

"That is no reason for the door not to let her pass," Teja says, peering at the door. "Things have been odd lately, I fear."

"More odd than things usually are, you mean?"

She hates camo. It's so... tacky. But sometimes a girl just has to make do.

Two steps over the threshold, she pauses and blinks, waiting until the odd sensation behind her breastbone settles. She covers with a smirk, and a grin, looking around for possible familiar faces and easily accessed exits. Eventually her gaze returns to the Doctor and she quirks an eyebrow at him.

"I love it when you cheat."

It's still strange to know what he knows about this woman and know how much more she knows about him. Strange, but intriguing.

And the way she looks at him. It's... well, he doesn't know what it is. But he's not entirely sure he doesn't like it.

"You just love cheating."

"You say that like it's a bad thing."

It's strange living your life back to front with the person you trust most in the universe, but she might just be starting to get the hang of it. (Not in the least, but she's never been afraid to fake it for appearances' sake.)

"Come on, then. I'm famished."

"Oh, all right. But you're buying. When I send you a message through time and put you and your friends into mortal danger, then I buy you dinner."
