It's the cursing that pulls him away from a cup of hot chocolate and a copy of Baum's The Wizard of Oz. To be honest, his head really isn't in the book, but after finding a decent copy in the library, he couldn't resist.

"Yes," she says without looking up. "I'm pregnant, I'm off the duty roster because of it, and some idiot teenager didn't listen to all the safety protocols I taught him, so somehow it's my job to fix this damned machine he screwed up so his papers for his final can be recovered. Believe me, it's necessary, and when you haul a human being around for forty weeks, you'll understand."

Rant over, she breathes, and looks up with a crooked smile. "But I don't bite, at least."

From the expression on his face, it might be obvious that he has no idea what a computer is, let alone one small enough to fit in someone's lap. Above and beyond that, a lady mouthing off soldier and sailor-type cussing isn't quite his norm.
