Alcide is not what you'd call a heavy drinker, but he does like to head down to the bar after a day of work and have a beer before he heads home. (If he's honest with himself, he can admit that this has been happening more and more since he broke things off with Debbie.) Mostly all he wants is a good beer, and he's not too picky about where he gets ( Read more... )

"Nope." The voice is British, and the girl is short, with an outfit that has become permanently mired in the 1980's, and a scent that is that of a cat who lives with an awful lot of dogs.

Mostly 'cause that's what's going on.

"Maybe the next floor down?"

"Mmm. There's downsides t'being young an' stupid." Her grin turns wry, but she doesn't seem inclined to explain. Sure, it's helped her now and then, but getting infected was hardly her smartest move ever.

"So you're...kinda like a shifter."

"S'a one way trip, so... not yet? But I toe the line some days." He's met her on a very good day - yesterday was for running endless laps around the lake to burn off a ridiculous amount of excess energy. She feels perfectly justified in lazing about today with cocoa made with cream.

"Ah. I gotcha."

That and the Were husband explain most of the scents he's getting from her.

"No way to stop it?"

"Who wants to stop it?" It's often inconvinient, and there are days she wishes she could just be normal for once, but she's pretty well settled into her ways. "Gotta be able t'keep up with the werewolves somehow."

"Yeah, but...if it's gettin' worse..."

He can't imagine dealing with something like that not having been born into it.

"So it is. I'm hardly the first person t'deal with a chronic condition." She snorts, raising an eyebrow at him. "And no. I'm not going to eat you. Just t'get that part over with."

He laughs. "I wasn't worried about that, cher."

"Well, that's refreshing." Sometimes that gets to be a bit of a focus. "You gotten sorted with the bar an' all?"

"Not really. It's still kinda weirdin' me out."

"What, the rats at your usual place don't serve? If it helps, they tend t'keep far away from me, so y'won't be bothered with them here." Ace explains, waving a hand at one of the waitrats who is studiously maintaining a good nine-foot safe zone away from her.

"My usual place don't usually have rats, servin' or not."

He frowns a bit at the rats here. "I can't imagine they'll like me much either."

I know they're not fond of Wells or Spoony, but I'm not sure 'bout the others." She shrugs, "I never knew if it was 'cause they are werewolves, or if it's 'cause of the dogs. Some of the pups didn't quite learn the rats weren't for chasin'."

By which she means her own dog, Magic. She's an older girl now, but she still seems to think the rats are great toys.

"Don't worry 'bout it. The Bar's a dear, if a bit cheeky, an' there's actual waiters sometimes." Wait-persons? Wait-sentient-creatures? Perhaps it's best to not get specific.
