Carl has had a few drinks, which would explain why he's willing to wander towards the karaoke machine -- unknown to him, this machine happens to harness an evil that is unspeakable.

Once it has hold of you, it rarely lets you go.

Which is why a few minutes later, Carl is taking the microphone for a reason he'll never quite be sure of, and breaking into song.

And after the first verse, he's pretty sure he sees Trudy coming down the stairs...

Carl has been watching her with careful concentration while she's been singing, and once she's finished, he heads over to let her know just how attractive he found that.

"You've an amazing voice."

"Yeah, I don't know where that came fro- mmf." Okay, no for talking, yes for accepting praise.

She likes the way he hands out praise. At least to her. He kisses anyone else like this, she'll use his ass for target practice.

"You know, mm, you were singing about walking before? Wanna walk upstairs?"

"I think walkin' upstairs is an excellent plan, Marine."

He's half-tempted to swoop-attack her and get her off her feet, but he's afraid she'll beat him if he does, so he refrains.

He does not, however, refrain from grabbing her ass (just once!) as they head for the stairs.

That is yet another song Posner doesn't recognize. It's catchy, though, and he laughs when he hears it.

"That was quite impressive."

"Thank you," Carl says. "Even though m'not sure quite why I wanted to sing it in the first place."

"No, nor was I. I think it's...I think it may be the machine that does it. I didn't even know the song I ended up singing."

"I knew mine, very well in fact," he says. "But I suppose with this place, who knows if the song is even from your world."

"Well, unless they've got Camus in some other world, it's likely it's from someplace that is at least similar to my world."
