Posner has been coming to Milliways long enough that he is under the impression he knows just about all the tricks the bar has to play on its patrons.

He's never seen the odd sort of stereo system off in the corner before, and he has to go and investigate.

When he gets closer, he finds he actually has to investigate further. He really doesn't ( Read more... )

Teja has been watching and listening from where he was sitting by the fireplace.

"You sing very well," he says, when the song finishes.

For his part, Posner is too relieved to be able to put down the microphone to give much thought to how well he did or didn't perform. Still, he nods his thanks, smiling and blushing a bit. "Thank you."

"It is a strange song, though," Teja says. "But one may never tell what that machine gives you."

"Does it do this sort of thing often? I haven't seen it before."

Sam stares when he sees Posner and comes over, "You've got a good voice."

Posner smiles, clearly embarrassed. "Thank you. I...I didn't mean to sing. I don't even know that song."

Somehow Sam's never noticed the karaoke machine before and takes the mic from Posner before suddenly and awkwardly breaking into song, "There's a plane flyin' outta here tonight ( ... )

Posner steps back to watch as Sameth sings, curious about what exactly is going on with the machine. When Sam finishes, he applauds politely.

"That was quite good as well."

Carl has had a few drinks, which would explain why he's willing to wander towards the karaoke machine -- unknown to him, this machine happens to harness an evil that is unspeakable.

Once it has hold of you, it rarely lets you go.

Which is why a few minutes later, Carl is taking the microphone for a reason he'll never quite be sure of, and breaking into song.

When I wake up yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who wakes up next to you
When I go out yeah I know I'm gonna be
I'm gonna be the man who goes along with you

And after the first verse, he's pretty sure he sees Trudy coming down the stairs...

If I get drunk yes I know I'm gonna be ( ... )

So, here's the thing apparently: Carl sounds way more Scottish when he's singing.

Trudy approves.

She's also trying to ignore the way her cheeks are burning, but the laughter? Yeah, there is no helping that.

"What," she says, "the hell was that?"

"I have no bloody idea."

He's grinning, and laughing himself as he tosses the mic back onto the machine.

"I just wanted t'sing, apparently."

"So I heard," she says with a smirk. "That...you just make up, or...?"

She'll kiss you in a second, Carl. Once she stops giggling.

Dakin, reading (for pleasure!) by the fire, looks up at the sound of a familiar voice singing.

No matter how awkward at times Posner's song choices make him feel, it's always a pleasure to hear him sing.

(Dakin can sing, too. Sort of. He just generally chooses not to.)

He gets up and comes closer to the pink machine so he can listen better.

When Posner spots Dakin, his cheeks flame. It's one thing planning it out with Scripps beforehand and serenading Dakin in class. It's completely different being essentially forced into it. He's not even sure what is going to come out of his mouth next. He doesn't like not being prepared.

He's definitely singing to Dakin again, though. It's just not quite as playful as the last time.

When the song finishes, he puts the microphone down and steps away from the machine.

Dakin applauds. "Who's the song by?"

Posner gives him a half-smile. "A band called the Magnetic Fields. I've not heard of them."
