Today Charlie is trying something new. Writing. He has one of those black notebooks you get cheap at the Office Store and a pen. And he's trying to see what he has to say. This time, two minutes later, a nameless passerby leaves a napkin on Charlie's table.

He's never seen a written emoticon before. The wonders of the future must include that, he thinks.

Leaving his notebook, he does the most Charlie-like thing he could do: he heads into the rafters. It's a certainty she won't be up here. But he can look down and eliminate her presence in the bar itself first.

And just for fun, he puts on his mask. Been too long since he wore it. Though what does it say that he still carries it with him?
