Felix sighs when Bar gives him the note. But he mutters an "All right" and steps around behind. After looking a few things up, he puts a few things on the specials board:

There's a Fool! He is a curious thing. With bells on.

"To find out how to stop the ones on my world." Which is true, but there's pretty obviously more to it than that.

"Energy eaters or magic eaters? Are they living creatures or machine made?"

He shrugs. "They seem to be affecting the elemental energies that make the world, the same energies Adepts manipulate. They are vortexes; I'm fairly sure they're not alive, and I haven't noticed any machines, but I haven't wanted to examine them closely or for long."

Kate walks in through the back door, more dirt and dust than woman. She's tugging off a pair of leather gloves and tipping a cowboy hat back. It hangs from her neck by the stampede string, sending a plume of dust in her wake.
She walks up to the Bar and hooks one of her boots on the rung of a bar stool, shoving her gloves in her pocket.

She unbuttons her tanned hide jacket and slips onto a seat, gesturing to the board with her chin.
"So, what's a Riddle's Shot?"

He nods. "How have you been, since then? And no, the offer is for anything." Privately, he wonders what kind of person names a drink 'Braindeath', or chooses to drink it, but it's not his place to judge. Just to find.

"Well enough, that window doesn't bother me as much as it did," she answers. "It may depend on your definition of energy or magic draining, but I haven't ever heard of anything that can drain away magic. It can be used up, I suppose, but not what I would call drained. I have been hearing of something new in my world that drains life energy."
Where's that rum?
Reply
...Is it eating through the bottle?
"Draining life energy?" he repeats. That doesn't sound like the same thing, but he wouldn't say - without knowing more - that it's any better.
