Aegnor shifted on his seat and noticed the canine coming near. He remembered Huan the hound and his great bravery and intelligence from his time. He wondered if this animal possessed some of those qualities...
He noticed the lass too and asked,
"Is that your dog? Nice looking one, smart, I bet."
"Oh, yes," says Ellen, looking up and offering a small smile. "Dogmeat's smarter than a fair number of people I know."
The dog turns and glances over his shoulder at his human a moment, then looks back to Aegnor. Perhaps if he looks pitiful the stranger will turn out to have meat.

Aegnor knows he could wish for a tasty bit for the dog, if he so desired but best to check and not anger the girl.
