[OOM: No one ever thought the Triwizard Tournament would end like this.]It’s not that Luna isn’t happy to see Milliways. (Well, happy is probably an overstatement at the moment, but she’s not unhappy to see Milliways.) It’s just not what she was expecting ( Read more... )

X approaches from the left, careful to make noise as she moves across the floor.

"You are waiting? For something. Or someone."

Sometimes it is best to check.

Luna, after a beat, looks over at her and opens her mouth as if to reply.

There's a bit of a delay. She looks rather as if she is trying to think how to answer the question.

"No," she says, finally. "No, I'm not waiting for anything. Anyone."

She looks down at the box in her hands, eyebrows drawn together a bit.

"I suppose I should find a seat," she says. "I'm rather blocking things, aren't I?"

She making no move to actually locate a seat yet. Give her a moment. It's been a long day.

"Yes," X says.

Whether it's an answer to Luna finding her seat, or to her position in the way of the door --

Who knows?

"You will not fall down? If you move."

That actually draws a bit of a smile out of Luna. Just a shade of one, but enough to turn the corners of her mouth up a little.

"No. I don't think I'll fall down."

Of course, one never knows until one tries.

"If I do, I think I'll manage getting up again."

She begins to move slowly to the closest available chair.

Maybe later she'll move over to one of the sofas. They look more inviting. Comfortable. But right now, close is welcome.

Professor McGonagall is sitting in a chair (not too comfortable, but comfortable enough) at a table near the door, her wand held at her fingertips and her eyes not seeing anything. For the moment.

She really shouldn't be blocking the door. Someone might need to get in or out.

Luna goes to the nearest table, setting down her box and pulling out a chair.

Honestly, the cushioned chairs and sofas near the hearth look much more inviting.

But this is closer.

"I believe that a request for permission to sit is generally preferred." Her voice is sharp, but it's not entirely without kindness. "Miss Lovegood, isn't it?"

That? Is very much not a voice she was expecting to hear.

Luna looks up, a little quizzically.

Even if it were her nature to greet unexpected things with alarm, she would be too tired tonight.

"Professor McGonagall?"

"Luna? You okay?" This is getting to be a habit. Only this time something seems different.

Luna looks up. And if she is blinking very quickly? Well, it could be chalked up to a change in the lighting.

"No," she says, after seeming to consider the question for a moment.

There's nothing to consider, really. It just seems to be taking more time than it should to find answers. Even simple ones.

Well, he didn't expect that. But she is often unexpected.

"Something I can do?"

Luna seems to ponder the question seriously while counting clumps of lint on the green sweater in her box.

"If you're not busy, perhaps I could sit with you for a little while? If you don't have other things to do."

That's what she felt she missed in the common room. She hadn't quite realized it until now. The others had mostly huddled together. In pairs or in groups. Luna's grateful that Sylvia had checked on her, but most of the night she has sat alone.

[OOC: See you on the flip side!]

Lost-looking, blonde-haired little girls strike a personal chord for Dixie.

Hello, long-ago orphanhood.

"Sweetheart, you looking more lost than my sense of basic goodness."
