It's entirely possible that Ianto likes making martinis because he knows he looks good with the shaker.

(OOC: No preference in terms of tagging, just whoever works best.)

Sam is at the Bar and is poking at a plate of food that he's barely eaten with an empty glass beside him. Its time to go and he has notepaper to write on but can't seem to find the words.

He's not sure when leaving Milliways became so hard.

"Refill?" says Ianto, looking sympathetic.

He looks at Ianto and then at his glass,

"Yes, I think it was spiced wine, that's what I usually drink."

"Spiced wine ... let me check the recipe book."

It's a bit of self-indulgence, he knows it is, and yet the lure of a cup of coffee amid the impossible wonder that is Milliways draws him all the same.

After all, he's not on shift for another two hours, but just couldn't sleep -- which means he'll need the coffee all the more, right?

He approaches the bar, eyes bright with anticipation -- and then pauses, looking curiously at the younger man's book.

Merlin is used to the book drawing attention. It's very big and old, after all.

He looks up with a smile. "Studying," he says cheerfully.

Hoshi grins back.

"Looks like. Sorry, I didn't mean to disturb you."

"Oh, it's all right," says Merlin, still cheerful. It's kind of his default setting, after all. "Plenty of time--that's why I come to Milliways."

He sticks out his hand. "I'm Merlin."

A man wearing a red tagelmust, a tan greatcoat and with a rifle that looks very much like the next-generation cousin of the Kalashnikov family carefully placed against the bar by his side is sitting not far from Watson. His hawkish face is set in a calm, placid gesture as he sips his sweet tea, but his dark eyes gleam with alertness.

(OOC: Hello! I think our time zones hate each other, but I don't mind slowtiming like whoa. I thought Tarik might catch the attention of an Afghanistan veteran like Watson.)

It doesn't take much for one military man to recognize another. John sits up a little straighter.

It's not that he expects action or anything...

[ooc: I suspect so, but slowtiming like whoa is always an option.]

Doesn't take much, no. Specially with that kind of reaction. Tarik nods and raises his glass in a small toast.

"It took me a while to accept it, but this place seems to be the very definition of 'Neutral Ground'. No need for the stiffness, then."

John, after a moment, returns the toast and relaxes a fraction, as much as he ever does relax.

"No offense meant.

"I'm John Watson. Formerly of the Royal Army Medical Corps."
