"And can I ask what brought on the song change?"

"Do yourself a favor, Teja. Don't think about it too much. It's just sex," he says tiredly. "It was fun, but don't wind yourself up about it."

"It was just sex," Teja says. "But if it was just money, there was a lot of it; and not any would pay that much for another's pleasure. So I must ask myself why -- was it some deviltry, or merely a very, very off-beat favour from a very, very rich friend?"

"I can't answer that," he repeats. "It's not lawful for me to divulge my client list without a police warrant, nor is it ethical."

Charles sighs, pushing his loose curls back. "It's my day off. I'd really like to not talk about work."

"I'm not expecting you to answer that," Teja says. "I am merely theorising aloud in your presence. Let us talk of another thing, then. Have you ever wondered why there are no mermaids in the lake?"

"I can't say I have. There are no mermaids in my world."

[ostro_goth]

"Nor in mine," Teja says. "But there are tales. So if anything that may be thought, can be real here: - why no mermaids?"

"Perhaps none have swum in yet."

"Maybe they will come when they feel like it," Teja says. "But I would not be astonished to see one."

[licensed_pro]

"You seem astonished that someone would pay for sex, if you're not astonished at a mermaid I'll be surprised."

[ostro_goth]

"I am astonished that another would pay for sex that I may have," Teja says. "And I would be truly astonished if a mermaid caught my foot as I was swimming in the lake."
