What the narration didn't mention: Tsu'tey--the rider--is about ten feet tall and possessed of an expressive, if impassive right now, leonine face. The ikran...well, Mike just might want to ignore that for a minute. She's quiet for now.

We hope she decides to stay that way.

At the trumpeting and immediately following blur darting out of the bush, it becomes apparent that for all Tsu'tey's size, he's still young. That would be accounted for by the 'what the hell?' expression. Mike also is lucky today, because Tsu'tey is slightly more conversant in his mother tongue, letting the translation field kick in around him.

"...What kind of animal is that?"
