Sometimes, a girl just wants to get away from hockey.

Which can be hard to do, in the middle of the Stanley Cup finals.

Still, with any luck, the Oilers will beat the Bruins tomorrow and bring the whole thing to a close for a while. And preferably without another game that requires three overtime periods ( Read more... )

"I could save you the trouble, and tell you who wins." No footsteps arrived to her, or noise heralded the hand on the back of the chair next to hers. But still his voice was amused. And, well, he was there.

"There aren't. But there are always things out of favor with the focus of modern culture." Edward considered Milliways with a glance, even though he wasn't imply to here at all this time. "And places we can explore that would pose much more danger to other."

"True," Meg says. "And I guess we're discovering and creating new things all the time."

Still. It seems like you'd worry about running out.

"Well, I know you've lived through 1990, and you know who wins the Stanley Cup and all, but do you think you might want to visit it again, one day? I've figured out how to keep the door open behind me, and I'd like for you to meet Alain."

Edward studied her, quietly for a few long seconds.

"You would like me to come to your world."

He's only left one other time really. Once.
And that didn't lead the best directions.
And yet. This is Meg asking.

If you'd like to, yes. I want the people I care about to know each other, as much as is possible, given things like the involvement of a bar at the end of the universe.

Edward is studying her. Calm. Quiet. Collected.

Golden eyes focused on her. Little Meg Ford.
Like she might be the only thing in the room.

"When?"

"Maybe after the Stanley Cup is over. So there's a chance you'll get to listen to something other than everyone's thoughts on hockey."

And so she can tell Alain she's bringing someone to meet him, before it happens.

And on a day when it's overcast. That's best, right?

"That's another thing down in records it wouldn't be too hard to find on my end."

Which isn't exactly acquiescing. But.

Meg grins at him. I suppose we can allow that much cheating.

"Will you come, then?"

He considered a few different phrases. The arrogant lilt that might fit them. The joking, easy words that might have fit them, too. But in truth, he's not really there, not back to who he was before. Well. Before all of this spring.

He knows certain things will come back and others won't.
He remembers the thirties. And Meg. Well. Is Meg.
And doesn't make demands of how he does.

So after a few more seconds he nodded.
Simple and subtle and very slight.

Thank you.

"Something to look forward to, then."

She is very particular. Little Miss Meg Ford.
Whom he's still agreeing to things for.

He doesn't miss that. He's come to far to.

"I'll leave you a note with the bar about upcoming dates--" There's the faintest wrinkle to his expression again. The edges of his lips tugging just a little upward "--that don't intersect hockey gatherings."

As much as such a thing is ever possible.

"Good," Meg says.

"I'm glad you're coming to visit."

Edward, quietly bemused, offered, "You may want to wait and see if I can be a proper house guest before being so sure of that."
