Happy Hour!

May 10, 2011 18:06

Well, it's certainly not the worst thing that could have happened to Rory.

(Though it's still a bit surprising.)

Thankfully, he hasn't popped into the bar straight from the hospital copy room (because that hasn't started to become a very bizarre trend at all, no); it's one of his blessed days off ( Read more... )

"I guess Mojito is a drink," says the tall blond man who approaches the bar, "but what do you mean by 'Two for One'?"

"That's right," Rory confirms. "And two for one basically means you get two for the price of one."

"That means," the man says, "I'd better find somebody to buy a drink for fast, does it?"

"It could," Rory allows, looking amused. "Or if you're particularly - er thirsty, you could have them both."

Amanda sits down at the bar, "I'll take two."

"Fantastic." In his best 'bartender' voice: "Coming right up."

"Thank you" she says in a perky voice.

She offers, "I'm Amanda"

Rory sets to making two mojitos, as per the order.

All of the right ingredients have already been set out in preparation.

(Rory is good like that.)

"Nice to meet you, Amanda," he says. "I'm Rory."

"What's in a mojito?"

Sam just came from the forge and gives Rory an awkward smile. Milliways makes for some odd first meetings.

Well, it's lucky they've spent some time in a bizarre other-world warehouse then, isn't it?

"Rum," says Rory, "and things like mint and lime juice and soda. It's mostly about the rum though. Hi. You're the prince bloke from the warehouse, aren't you?"

"Sameth, yes, that sounds good. I'll try one. How have you been?"

Nothing like facing possible odd death together to get through all those pesky introductions.

Absolutely.

If he can be glad for anything, it's avoiding awkward introductions. Also, there's the whole initiation into All Things Weird, which is not wholly a bad thing in retrospect.

"One it is," he says.

He'll just discount half from that. (He doubts anyone's really going to count the pennies on the evening's profits.)

"I've been all right. I haven't actually been into the Bar in quite some time."

Eventually a rather tall young man who looks like he's in Roman leather armor--not prepped for battle, then, but not exactly off his guard--wanders up to the Bar. There's a bandage around his forearm with a little bit of blood showing through in an odd pattern. It might almost be a bite.

He glances at the board curiously. "What's a mojito?"

"A rum-based Cuban drink," Rory answers. "Good for the summer. And celebrating things."

Also Ernest Hemingway's favourite drink.

But ... that's a bit of nerd trivia.

Tavi's learned a litte about some of the kinds of alcohol from Earth in the time he's been here, and manages to pick out from his memory which source and fermenting process the name refers to.

After a moment, he prods tentatively, "Cuban?" Because he suspects it doesn't have to do with perfect hexahedra.

Haha - no.

Nooot exactly.

"Cuban like from Cuba. It's a state in the Caribbean, back on Earth," says Rory. "It's a tropical place, very warm. Brilliant for vacations, I'm sure."

Not that he's ever had the chance to go.

There's a cat on the bar, eyeing the specials board with curiosity.

skeptictraveler May 11 2011, 01:00:58 UTC
And Rory, in turn, watches the cat.

He's deciding whether this cat is really a cat, or something else entirely.

In this place, you can't rule anything out.

The cat soon switches to watching Rory in return.

"You going to take my order, or what?"

"- ah. Uh - right. Did you want the mojitos, then?"

It takes a moment for Rory to compose himself.

(So much for being prepared for anything this place has to throw at you.)

Definitely can't rule anything out.
