Harry knows they've spent far too long in this bar. He also knows that's his fault. He'd wanted to leave as soon as he got here but then...well, how could he walk away from here, knowing his mother visited? And now he knows his father does too - can he really walk out, pass up the chance to talk to him, knowing that he may never make it back?

(OOC: Slight slow upcoming as I go to lunch but I thought these guys should talk again.)

Sam's been working in the forge and spotted Harry when he came out for a break,

"Hello?"

[OOC: For sure! :D]

Harry glances over listlessly, then flings another stone towards the water.

'Hello.'

"I hope I'm not bothering you, but um I think your friends have been looking for you. We talked briefly before, I'm Sameth,"

He also sort of knows the look of wanting to not do things.

'Yeah, I remember. Sameth.'

Vaguely.

'You mean the posters? I'll...yeah, I should go and find them.'

Lily was right.

Since his conversation with her, James has not been able to get the idea of Harry out of his head.

Not that it's exactly been very long, just under 24 hours, but as soon as he found a door, he took it without hesitation.

He isn't even really sure why.

He's doesn't know he's expecting to find today, certainly not when he heads out back by the lakeside for some fresh air (and a bit of solitude).

Solitude, he can certainly have if he wants it. Harry hasn't seen him yet.

...oh, wait.

He doesn't know what to say, of course. Or think. The man...boy...is a distance away, too far to call out to (what would he call him, anyway?) but there's no mistaking who it is.

Harry is standing, picking up the broom as he does, letting it dangle from his hand. His other is full of stones and he absently thinks he must look a right prat, holding them, gawping the way he is. But he doesn't care. That's his dad.

That gawping look?

It's a bit like looking into the mirror.

James is aware he's wearing an expression of shock and surprise as well.

What are the odds, really, that you've been going to Milliways since before Christmas, and you've never even known the existence of your future son - and then, quite suddenly, you hear you've got one and he's the first person you (more or less) bump into?

He raises a hand to wave.

Nothing could prepare him for something like this.

He does the same, with the hand holding the broom. Naturally, it doesn't quite come off. But that's alright.

He's reminded quite strongly of looking at himself across that lake swarming with Dementors, thinking it was his father come to save him. Only this is real. He's really standing there.

No idea what to say. And his feet seem to have rooted themselves to the spot.

"There's enough of those on the bottom of the lake already," says the tall, broad blond man who happens on Harry while walking around the lake.

He's followed by a cheerful white-and-brown dog.

'A few more won't hurt it,' he says, barely glancing at the man.

He's not normally so rude but...well. Extenuating circumstances and everything.

"Actually," the man says, "a few more make no difference at all. No point in doing it."

'It's making me feel better,' he replies, belligerently.

This is not noticeably true but hey, this guy doesn't know him. It might be working.

The advanced students of the Magic Guild have finished their written finals, much to their and the teacher's mutual relief. With only a few exceptions, everyone much rather prefers the practical finals.

One of her Advanced Spell Composition assignments, however, requires a specific type of grading that requires open space and , judging from what's under the Guildmaster's arm, a carpet.

She spots Harry, watching and listening as he throws the stones into the lake. It's a familiar scene on a few different levels. There's so much she'd like to tell him, above all that things will be all right. But she's had trouble with this before, with Hermione. She still isn't sure if she did the right thing then.

So she'll try to keep this short, lest her mouth run away with her.

"Hello, Harry."

He glances up, his arm poised to throw another, squinting a little at the sun behind her head.

'Hello. Er...Mia, isn't it?'

He meant to leave a note to thank her for the gift at Christmas, but he's had other things on his mind. He's not normally so rude.

"Yes," she says, smiling a little.

It's more sympathetic than happy at him remembering her.

"I can... Kind of guess what's going on for you now. I've been through it before when I was your age."

War in general, the Wizarding War in particular, the burden of expectation placed on the chosen, betrayal and the constant question of who you can trust, all of it.

He laughs hollowly. And throws the stone.

'You can guess?'

He's sure.

"You're a right git, you are."

Ron plops down on the ground next to him. He grabs a stone from Harry and chucks it into the lake.

'Am I?'

Hi, Ron.

'Why?'

Reply

humourandheart May 5 2011, 21:08:42 UTC
Why?

"Because you are, that's why. And I haven't decided if I want to talk to you again yet so you can just shut it for now."

He grabs another rocks and it goes into the lake too. This time with a little more force than the last.

Well. That's a pretty unequivocal instruction. Harry shuts it, and throws another stone.

'I saw the poster. I was writing you both a note, and then I got...distracted.'

Beat.

'Sorry, Ron.'
