"Mr. Potter."

The soft voice seems to have come from out of nowhere. As, in fact, its owner may just have.

Dumbledore pauses by James Potter's table.

"I do understand that congratulations are in order."

He nods at the silver badge.

"Ah, yes. I fear I was otherwise engaged and could not attend, but the coverage was colorful."

With Quidditch, it generally is.

"Quite a triumph for Ballycastle."

James groans a little.

"I don't think I've ever seen Cliona Byrne so happy before," he says. "Not surprised though, really. Her brother plays on the team."

Dumbledore chuckles a bit.

"Ah, yes. Miss Byrne can be quite enthusiastic."

He's seen her celebrate when the Gryffindor team scores a goal.

"I hope that you didn't lose too much on the game."

"No, sir. Just a loss of pride and a bit of money on ice cream afterwards," James says, letting out a laugh.

"You don't consider pride too dear a price, then."

Dumbledore looks as if he approves.

"A wise state of mind. Pride inevitably gets lost from time to time, and those who prize it too highly are apt to be left flailing when that happens."

"Well, I do try, sir," says James, sobering quickly.

Fifth Year was actually a pretty good year for learning lessons on pride.

"It helps that Cliona's a pretty good sport in the end."

"Indeed."

Dumbledore lifts his tea cup a bit, as if in toast.

"Two good sports. I have no doubt but that the Gryffindor Quidditch team is in good hands."

James follows suit, raising his Coke glass.

"Thank you, sir. I won't let the team, or Gryffindor, or you down."

Dumbledore smiles and nods.

"And very glad I am to hear it, Mr. Potter."

He finishes off the last of his tea and sets aside his cup.

"And now, I think I have taken up enough of your evening," he adds, rising.

No student wants to be trapped making conversation with their elderly headmaster indefinitely.

"Thank you for the tea and conversation, Mr. Potter. Until we meet again, if not in Milliways, then when term starts."

"And I shall look forward to an exciting Quidditch season."

James half-ponders standing up too - it'd only be polite, after all.

And Dumbledore is the Headmaster.

So, he does.

"Oh. Yeah. Right," he says. "Thank you, sir."

"Good evening."

Yes. The coming school year looks to be interesting indeed.
