Two pups, two muns, ONE FIRST ENTRANCE!

The city of Kirkwall is a fascinating place, full of ancient architecture, interesting people, and disturbing history. They don't call the former quarry and slave trade hub the City of Chains for nothing. These days things are different, but one matter still remains: wherever you go, when there aren't enough guards with a will to act and enough ( Read more... )

"Yes," comes the human's dry reply as she absently reaches for one of her daggers in response to the sudden change in scenery. "Because not only did I gather enough sovereigns this afternoon to fund our trip, but I also had enough to redecorate the Hanged Man as well."

"Looks like I was wrong about the rats," says Varric dryly as one goes scampering past. "Although I might have taken a blow to the head back there. I could've sworn that one was wearing a shirt."

"If you have a head wound, so do I," comes the response, Hawke's grip on her dagger tightening as she looks around. "That one is wearing pants."

"Something very strange is going on here," says Varric, one hand going up to the butt of his crossbow. "Either a mage is involved, or someone's burning some of the really interesting plants out of Antiva. The ones you're not supposed to inhale."

"The rats, I think, are mostly good at bathing."

The voice comes from overhead -- somewhere in the rafts.

It is almost immediately followed by a loud thump as something small and feathered becomes large and man-shaped.

And levering himself up from a crouch on the floor.

"Or possibly it is swimming. Still."

Huh. That's new. Nobody bothers to get up into the rafters at the Hanged Man, that's for sure. "Impressive," says Varric, doing a creditable job of keeping his expression even. "They've mastered a skill quite a few humans- and dwarves- I know don't seem to have the hang of yet."

"Really," she agrees with a bit of false lightness in her voice. "Wait 'till you see Uncle Gamlen before Mother threatens to chuck him in the bath with the dog."

"That, I think, is not so easily arranged."

Raven wrinkles his nose.

"Mostly here there are not so many dogs."

Coyotes, now --

...Well. When one overhears a conversation like that, you have to really peer out from your booth and investigate just who the heck is having it.

Attire and species aside, a conversation like that can really only mean one thing here.

"Howdy." May as well nod a greeting to the new people.

"Evening," says Varric cheerfully. "Interesting place you've got here."

That's generally a safe way to start.

"Ain't my place, I just get work here and enjoy the atmosphere." Beauford grins back, easing back into his comfortable booth seat with the papers spread out in front of him, and no few recipe books.

"Welcome to Milliways, and yeah, it did kind of pop up in the door of your Hanged Man."

"You know, I don't study this kind of thing, but I can't recall ever hearing of that kind of magic," says Varric. "Somebody's got an interesting hand on things."

"The rat piss is excellent, actually. Except we call it Atalantean and overcharge for it like crazy."

The Jade Giantess at that table close by, the one who overheard their conversation, smiles and indicates her table with a hand gesture. "First one's on the house, and you're probably not where you expected to be, are you?"

"Definitely not," says Varric. He's seen a lot of women in his time in various shades and tones and sizes, but even the Qunari women he's heard about don't come in green. Bronze or greyish, maybe, but not green. "Not that it doesn't look appealing, you understand. It's just not the place we'd planned on."

"It tends to pop up when you least expect it. Welcome to Milliways, the Bar at the End of the Universe of Your Choice. I'm happy to offer full explication of what that means. Join me at my table?"

Hawke shares a glance with Varric before shrugging and making her way towards the green woman's table.

"Sure. If only for you to explain the whole 'End of the Universe' thing."

There's a woman at a nearby table watching the exchange with some interest. Her skin is purple, her hair looks like it's made of embers, and the drink in the glass in front of her is blue and glowy.

Thaaat's new.

"Question for you, Hawke," Varric says, jerking his chin towards the purple woman. "Are you seeing what I'm seeing?"

Best not to embarrass himself with a completely mistaken greeting if it really is Antivan smoke at work.

The purple woman grins and snickers a bit. It may be Varric's imagination, but her eyeteeth seem just a bit too long and pointy.

Hawke's gaze follows Varric's, eyebrows nearly disappearing into her hairline as she catches sight of the woman.

"Purple, orange and glowy? How likely is it that we're hallucinating the exact same thing, you think? Because I'm starting to rethink the whole Antivan herbs thing."
