Ned sets a cherry pie down beside a blueberry (two classics, of course) and looks up.
"'Pi Day'," he says, offering her a friendly smile. "March fourteenth. Three-fourteen. It's a little bit silly, but it's an excuse to celebrate with pie."
Pi Day. That's Ned all over, that is. The thought make Sunshine smile slightly. But she's hesitant to approach the bar, what with...
Well.
The last time they saw each other, they weren't exactly feeling like themselves, were they?
Rae approaches the far end of the bar from where Ned is currently helping a patron to a slice of pie, in really no hurry to draw attention to herself, but knowing he'll look over and see her eventually.
He's not sure how much she'll understand, even if pi is a pretty general, well-known (enough) math concept. Even for Ned, math has never been his strong-suit.
"Pi Day," he answers, smiling. "It's an unofficial holiday to celebrate the mathematical symbol, 'pi', with pie."
And the answer to that, Ned, is not a lick of it. Arithmatic has never been one of Rue's strengths either, especially considering she always ended up missing a good chunk of the school year to help with the harvest.
But still. There is pie. Obviously this "Pi Day" can't be all that bad. "What kinds do you have?"
"A number of flavours: apple, cherry, blueberry, pear and a tropical assortment of fruit," says Ned, gesturing to the line-up of pies, some half-eaten, others a little more than half.
(And once these finish, he's got another set of pies he can bring out to replace them.)

But it's kind of hard to miss a very, very tall man with a number of pies, even at the end of the universe.
"Is there an occasion?"

She approves.
"And, okay, maybe a little silly, but that's okay, too."

"I've also got a pear pie in the oven right now, but so far there's cherry, blueberry, apple, and 'tropical'."

He smiles, then shakes his head.
"No. I assure you, they're as non-magical as they get."
Which is how he prefers it, really.

"What flavors you have?" For the record, Cy shouldn't actually trust a stranger just because the stranger says "look, no magic." But, you know, pie.

Not that he can help it, considering the sort of 'fruit' he uses back home.
But it is inconvenient in the way that he can't actually eat them.
Here, though, it's fresh ingredients all the way.
"So far? Cherry, blueberry, apple and tropical. I've got a pear pie in the oven right now. That shouldn't take more than a few minutes."

And when he does, he goes a little red in the face.
But, really. It's Rae. And Rae's his friend.
Even if ... things had gone a little awry the last time they'd spoken.
(He still remembers bits and pieces of things he'd really rather not remember.)
Awkward though he is, he can't simply ignore her.
So, with a sense of bravery he usually does not possess, he approaches.
"Rae, hi."

Ignore how pink her cheeks are; she certainly is. Like she's ignoring most of what she can remember of that last meetinng.
"Happy Pi Day."
They are just all kinds of awkward at each other.

"Happy Pi Day," he returns, offering her a vaguely twitchy smile.
But the smile is there, and that's what counts.
"Did you want a slice?"

"What're all these for?"

"A few of my favourites," says Ned. "Apple being my absolute favourite. Then cherry, blueberry, pear and a tropical kind."

"Ooh, pi!" Enzo surveys them, attempting to select by sight alone since he cannot smell them.

He's been around for long enough that green or cyborg boys don't quite faze him anymore.
At least not by appearances.
"It's Pi Day. So, Happy Pi Day to you."
