There was a young masked man in the bar.

Then there was a sting, and a moment's reverie, and then there was the most beautiful girl in the world and she was looking back at him, and then Jason made some vague excuses and left the bar with less than his usual grace and more than his usual haste ( Read more... )

"Heads up!"

It was a demon bunny corpse when Mel started to throw it. It'll be an undead demon bunny by the time it hits him.

An undead split-in-half bunny. So back to being a corpse, then.

Jason wipes his knife on his pants and regards the corpse, and then Mel. "There many of those things out here?"

"Lots," says Mel. "Annoying little rutters. Not bad for light exercise."

"Huh." Jason prods the corpse away from him with his boot. "Challenging?"

He could be interested in them if they're hard to get!

Deadshot is there.

One hand in his pocket, the other one holding a cigarette.

Gave you an earworm :P

Jason is watching him, of course. Jason watches everybody.

He does not have an earworm. But only because he missed a lot of popular culture, what with being dead and then the obsessive training and things. That can happen.

The narration, on the other hand ...

"Nice day for it."

Oh hey, it's that kid. The one that pulled all that crap in Gotham a few years ago. Floyd would remember his name if he gave a shit.

"If you say so."

Jay shrugs. He's noticed the costume, but whatever kinship some might think should exist between masks - well, doesn't, as far as he's concerned.

Besides, that is one ugly jacket.

After a moment, he pulls out a cigarette of his own.

There was that guy again. The one that keeps eyeballing her. Not entirely in the way Rachel is used to being eyed, either, as he took the chance to look at her, and then usually just walked away. Or smirked at her like he knew some damaging secret ( ... )

She's coming after him! Shit!

Jason stuffs his hands even more firmly into his pockets and stares at the lake. He's totally normal. He's the most ordinary, boring guy out here.

(He is not about to smooth his hair. ... it is ridiculous that he wants to. NO.)

It's a little cliche. Tough guy in the snow, staring soulfully out into the lake as the sun goes down and the shadows stretch. A little overdone.

But he makes it look really good.

And normal, ordinary, boring guys don't wear masks and smirk and eye her and then disappear. In the past, it's always been easy to ignore good-looking guys - or, well, mostly ignore them. And especially easy to ignore smirking, irritating guys.

Rachel hesitates at the door before stepping out anyway. Whatever it is that's drawing her to him, she's not going to hide away from it like some little kid. She's just trying to figure things out. Something's different. She's just... investigating.

Yeah.

There's a girl a good thirty feet away, looking at the lake and the trees and totally not turning her head toward him - but she doesn't really need to, since he's in her periphery.

Completely a tough guy. A tough man. Not at all an awkward eighteen-year-old with lots and lots of elite martial arts and weaponry training and no idea how to speak to girls.

Damn it, Jason's sure he used to know these things. Before - before.

After a moment or two he turns her way, shoulders hunched awkwardly, and proceeds to so-casually drift over.
