Like any hard-drinking bar denizen, Melpomene eventually has to pay her dues. In part, this means tending the bar when she's told.

A little grumpy, Melpomene heads behind the bar and lights up. (What's a proper bar without a fine fog of cigarette smoke?) With her free hand, she writes:

Specials:
Make me laugh, half-off drinks.

There's a girl at the bar with a silver and purple 'Happy Birthday' crown and a rather elaborate cupcake who has left off contemplating her candle for a moment, and is dreamily reading the sign.

"I could make you laugh," she says after a moment.

She sounds very certain.

"Oh?" she asks, with a slightly raised eyebrow.

(She probably should have seen something like this coming, given that it's Milliways.)

Luna nods.

"Oh, yes. It's a simple charm. We learned it last year. I believe it was originally developed as a diversionary tactic in duels, but it doesn't hurt. It just tickles you."

She takes her wand down from its usual place behind her ear.

"Would you like me to? I must say, you do look rather put out."

Luna is happy to help if she can.

Ah, magic.

"You can try," she says, dryly.

"But I'm generally immune to brain control."

Teller likes a good challenge, and he's been getting his nerves about him again when it comes to this place.

He slides up to the Bar, and without warning (as is typical, when this one is concerned), he reaches into his mouth and pulls out an entire deck of cards, letting them fly in all directions.

When he runs out of cards, he just shrugs lightly, as though that were a totally normal thing to do.

Melpomene stares, her mouth twitching slightly.

But there are drinks on the line, so he gets more of a smirk than an outright laugh.

"Well done there."

He shrugs. Oh, well, he tried.

Another glance at the specials board, and he frowns slightly. Hmm. This is usually made easier when specials are actually listed.

He points at the fridge curiously. Wonder what's in there tonight?

She turns to follow his pointing finger, and opens the fridge.

"Let's see what we have... um, a few fingers of vodka, some cranberry juice, what looks like a very old bottle of tequila, and..."

She lifts something cloudy and mysterious out of the fridge, smells it.

"... unfortunately, a very old bottle of milk."

The venue may be strange, but that face, at least, is familiar.

Orpheus still has his guitar strapped to his back as he slides onto a stool.

"Fancy seeing you here."

Melpomene looks him over with a small smile before saying anything.

"I could say the same.

"What brings you out to the end of the universe?"

"Is that where I've ended up?" He doesn't have anything riding on keeping a straight face, so he has no reason not to laugh in delight. "In that case...I'm not sure what brings me here. The will of the gods?"

She gives him a wry smile.

"Well, they didn't send me the memo."

Well, it looks like just about all of Kate's friends are pulling shifts behind the Bar this week. She smiles as she approaches Melpomene, and then notices the specials board.

Hm. This is going to take a little thought.

She settles herself down on a stool, and looks at the Muse with the utmost solemnity.

"What d'you get when y'cross an elephant with a rhinoceros?"

An eyebrow quirks.

"I give up. What?"

Kate shrugs.

"'Ell-if-I-know."

It's a play on words, see?

(She didn't go to university for nothing.)

Melpomene lets out a definite snort, but succeeds in not outright chortling.

"That's awful."
