Is it enough to have some love
small enough to slip inside a book
small enough to cover with your hand
because everyone around you wants to look Rachel has been scarce in the bar for the last few days. Five or six or however long her mun was MIA. Today, she's finally making her way down the stairs, intent on a stop at Bar and a semi-permanent

It eventually rubs up against her ankles, purring a sleep-drowsed greeting.

Though he is quietly (very) pleased by Rachel's words. Sitting there is a privilege. It's... something special.
As for Yrael's point, well... whatever. Yrael knows the answer, seeing as how Rachel gave it to him, and Tobias isn't all that curious about the not'cat. Or, rather, he's no more likely to voice any curiosity now than he usually is, so he sits silently.

But there is something distinctly awkward about standing there with Tobias on her shoulder and Yrael on the counter and silence sitting with them.
"What are you doing?" Rachel asks abruptly, turning her attention to the not'cat. And his stupid smug not-entirely-possible cat smile. "What's up? Did you ever get that concert thing set up?"
Reply
"Oh, the concert has been cleared with the city, and will take place in a few days, when the post-construction clean up has been completed. Time runs differently there, so there is time still," he smiles, purring slightly. "Both of you would be invited, if you would like to go. New Orleans is an enjoyable city."
"Apart from that, things have been... well, up and down," he says, kneading his claws into a nearby napkin. "I lost a friend, earlier this month."

Because this, at least, he understands. The talk of concerts and invitations he can take or leave, but losing a friend... that can tell you something about a person.
Or a cat.
Or a not'cat.

"I'm sorry," is said quietly, sincerely.
But she doesn't ask anything more about it. Unlike Tobias, Rachel feels she knows enough about Yrael to not need details about his grief.

For all that Yrael loves his home, he knows that the door can be cruel. It doesn't make it easier.
"I am hoping his lover will come to the concert, at least to find some distraction from his grief in it."

Or, at least, it is supposed to be.
But here he is. And here Rachel is. So... maybe not.
Still, a bit of his sympathy fades at hearing that Yrael's friend is alive and well. That makes for a different sort of loss, he thinks.

Until a few days ago, Rachel knew exactly what that meant and how much it hurt. Still does, in a way.
And the loss hurts no less than any other.
Unconsciously, she tilts her head to the side until its resting lightly against Tobias' shoulder. Seeking that reassurance that he is there with her again.
Distraction from grief. Which had been exactly what Yrael had been offering with his very first invitation.
"Let me know when it is. I'll come." She glances at Tobias but doesn't speak for him. Not wanting to push when he doesn't like crowds or know Yrael himself.

"I would be glad to have you, completely apart from the charitable nature of the concert."
It is good, to have one's friends around one, especially when coping with loss.

Not for Yrael, or his friend, but for Rachel. He'll tolerate a lot for her, after all. And a crowded concert? Well, he's tolerated worse.

If they were alone, she'd give in to the impulse to kiss the wing she can reach. As it is, she smiles.
"Can people do that if they aren't bound?" she asks Yrael. "Wander around other worlds?"
Reply
"Exploring other worlds makes up a good portion of how I spend my time," he replies, streeeeeeetching and yawning. "If you can get someone to open the door, you can visit their world. It is how I found my way to New Orleans in the first place, after all, being invited by my friend Belle. I have visited other worlds with other friends, as well. Axel has numerous worlds he has access to - so often we go to explore and have various adventures, from entire worlds of dangerous deserts, or great, dark forests, or towering cities with grand libraries."
Even to a world that turns any human entering it into a creature of the African savannah (usually a lion).
"Whatever we end up doing, it is always enjoyable." Fighting things. Setting things on fire. Sometimes even for good causes!

But... who knows. Maybe he'll be surprised.
He suspects not.

Rachel, on the other hand, has visibly straightened, all attention for Yrael. New Orleans has never especially excited her, but exploring other worlds? Adventures? Danger?
It can't possibly be surprising that she's rapt.
"Then we'll come," she says - and stops herself from adding more.
Like asking where else they can go, and when, how soon and how often.
If Tobias can even see a door, right this moment.

"Looking forward to it," he says, and orders a saucer of milk and a fish from the bar. "Would either of you like anything?"
Yrael grins. "To make up for some of the freeloading, perhaps."
