Monday Morning Multipup!

In and around Milliways this morning, one finds:

a piece of software at the Bar with an energy shake and a VidWindow;
a pregnant woman at a table covered in electronic bits;
a Warehouse agent in a booth with a crossoword puzzle;
a combat droid tromping through fresh-fallen snow by the lakeside;
and a black cat curled up on the seat of the armchair

Once she's gotten in some R&R in her draconic form, Kreyu resumes her favorite human shape and wanders back into the Bar.

She spots Alyx, and heads over to see what she's doing with all of those strange bits of metal.

"It's not really belief when it's been experienced," she says with a rueful smile.

Alyx quirks an eyebrow. "Oh?"

[brave_kreyu]

"I have experienced death and reincarnation," she explains. "Dragons remember our past lives."

[a_mere_child]

"Huh. How does that work exactly?"

[brave_kreyu]

"I'm not entirely certain what you mean," Kreyu replies, confused. "Those memories are no different to me than the ones from this incarnation, once they have returned to me."

[a_mere_child]

"And when and how does that happen?"

[brave_kreyu]

"When I incarnate, when I first open my eyes, I do not remember much of anything. I'm functioning as much on instinct as on reason, at that stage."

"But my brood still calls to me, urges me toward them. Once we are together again, the memories start to come back whenever I wake from dreaming. Being close to my Hoard helps too, as memories tend to cling to the items in it."

"Sounds a lot like the Vortigaunts," Alyx muses. "They have this group intelligence, I'm not quite sure how it works..."

[brave_kreyu]

"I am not entirely certain how we work," Kreyu admits with a chuckle. "I can only guess the difficulty is magnified when dealing with another species."

"I'm not sure humans have the cognitive capacity to understand Vortigaunt psychology," admits Alyx. "But they're patient with us."

[brave_kreyu]

"Do they have tribes of their own, or have they adopted your people as theirs?"

[a_mere_child]

"...I'm not quite sure what that means."

[brave_kreyu]

"Do they have their own society, their own laws, customs, that sort of thing."

[a_mere_child]

"I don't know about laws, but they definitely have their own culture," says Alyx. "One we don't know much about. They're very reserved, and a lot of stuff just doesn't translate."

[brave_kreyu]

"That's understandable," Kreyu replies. "Especially if they are from another world entirely."
