It is still early in the afternoon, but it is already dark outside.

Teja is sitting by the fireplace, playing a melancholy tune upon his harp.

The cats are casually draped around the chair he is sitting in.

teja, melpomene, kida

Melpomene is slumped over a chair in the corner. Her ears prick as she hears the harp begin-- she thinks she may know the tune (or wrote it).

She may very well know it; it was already old when Teja learned it, in 6th century Italy.

She listens, for a few moments, then leans over her chair to greet him.

"Teja, isn't it?" she says.

"Indeed," Teja says. "That is my name, lady."

Here, Teja. Be traumatised by a child trying to get out of a blue hoodie that's a couple sizes too big for her.

Teja isn't traumatised by children, but he does not know how to deal with them. Unless they are older, as Carlotta was when he first met her.

In the struggle to get the sweater off, Kida stumbles and sits down unexpectedly on the floor, but doesn't start to cry; rather, she just keeps pulling at it until the cloying material comes off in a heap on the floor beside her.

Her hair is ruffled, but otherwise she is unscathed. Miraculous, all things considered. (Though it's curious why she was in a slightly damp hoodie without shoes, socks, or pants.)

Teja doesn't feel inclined to bother with such things: - children will wear odd clothes when one lets them.

But one of his cats walks over, a big friendly white-and-tabby tom.

He 'mrrrr's, and rubs his face against Kida's hand.
