There is a Sam! He's outside on the jetty, dabbling his feet in the water and watching the sunset.

Come bother him.

Inside is a Martha, curled up on a sofa with a big glass mug of Irish coffee (mmmm, whiskey), a slice of chocolate cake, and a copy of A Study In ScarletShe hasn't noticed that she's acquired a cream moustache from the coffee ( Read more... )

"You're just asking to be shoved in, you know," Atton remarks, peering at Sam. "It's my civic duty."

Sam peers right back at Atton!

"If I go in, you go in with me," he warns. "And then my sea-monster girlfriend will kill you to death."

Oh yes!

"The squid," Atton says sternly, "is too young for you, Sammy. And killing me to death is a bit excessive."

"Nothing is too excessive for you, Atton Rand!"

Urquhart has met the young woman before, so he gives her a smile when he notices her.

He gets a measured look from Martha over the top of her book.

(No, she really doesn't know about the cream.)

Urquhart mimes wiping his lip, and winks at her.

Martha snorts, wiping away the cream with one finger.

(She might be a touch red, but she's not going to ACT like she is.)

Gene flings himself down on the armchair opposite Martha, scrutinizes her for a brief moment and then says;

'Either your drink's go' cream in it or you've taken up moonlightin' as a prozzie an' your last client had bad aim.'

He's guessing the former but hey, you never know.

Martha gives him a Look - it's hard to do whilst licking cream off your lip, but she just about manages to do it.

"I'm not above hitting you with this, you know."

It's a hardback, so she could theoretically inflict at least noticeable damage with it. She doesn't exactly look the type, but Gene should have learnt by now not to underestimate small twenty-first-century women.

'You wouldn' do that. You don' know whether I'd like it or no'.'

He smirks cheekily and lights the fag hanging out of his mouth.

'Alrigh', CleverKecks? How's life?'

"Depends where I'd be hitting you," Martha says darkly.

She sets the book down, though: she came here to relax, and hauling off and decking the twerp - even if he can be quite an entertaining twerp - with a book would only spoil it. And more to the point, it might break her book!

She rolls her shoulders lightly. "I'm okay. How's life in the cave?"

Sam wants to be bothered? Cal can do that.

Even as we speak, he is sitting himself down next to Sam in a very bothersome kind of way.

"Hi."

Cal is truly bothersome, which is perhaps why Sam responds by leaning against him and resting his head on his shoulder.

"Evening, Favourite."

Cal slips his arm around Sam.

"God, it's so much nicer here than it is at home." Cal is kind of done with winter now. The weather back home is getting to the point where it's thinking of warming up, but hasn't committed to the idea yet.

Sam chuckles, comfortable. "Not many people ever say that about Scotland."

Teller, it has to be said, has serious issues with personal space.

That is, he has no respect for it.

So Martha has probably noticed that there's a man wearing a grey business suit and a dive mask, reading over her shoulder.

She looks up after a few minutes, eyeing him.

"Do you mind?"

Teller seems to consider this before shaking his head.

And then he pulls a handkerchief from his jacket and reaches over to try to wipe the cream from Martha's face.

"Hey!" She uses her book to swat his hand away. "Get off!"
