Why is Miharu near a kitchen voluntarily? Who knows... But the fact is, he is not just near one, he is in one.
Likely it's an attempt to get out of eating later by being able to truthfully claim he ate something now, no matter how big or small it is. He's generally okay with food these days but he doesn't like being forcefed. It's not just simply annoying, it makes him sick. Literally.
He expected food in the kitchen. He did not, however, expect Mia. It is time to cue one 'eep' from this teenage boy. He may or may not have been lectured... and with that, Miharu has no particular idea of what to do around this woman. Let alone his own emotional fallbacks upon any memory of the silly things he told her. Yes, silly. We will go with 'silly'. It's simply easier that way.
Alas that backing away slowly and running is not a good option. It would actually be quite effective.
Miharu has to wonder what woud happen if the baby was allowed to fuss. But he would rather not find out, really.
"I suppose I am."
But how lucky were they? This is a thought he would utter around certain people (possibly followed by a sound thrashing for it), but it is not one he would utter here.
"You ought to let me make food for you sometime in return for this."
Mia knows and would rather prevent that. She let him have a toy and he is behaving well with it, so she's not about to take it away for no reason. Besides, he can't say much outside of fussing, babbling, and the frequent repeating-syllable words he's been practicing.
"Ah, you cook? It's always good to know how."
Ideally so one can take care of oneself.
"I taught my husband how to cook. He was stubborn about learning, but now he's better at it than I am."
"I know, but I have not done it for awhile. I am unsure of why, really."
The idea of it makes the scar on his hand uncomfortable. No better feeling or descriptor - just uncomfortable. Considering everything that is tied to it, he generally avoids whatever will make it act up. Now, anyway.
"My aunt let me do little things when she first took guardianship of me. Now she says the same that you do about your husband."
He would think she was just lazy if it not were for others agreeing.
"No matter my own relationship to food, I enjoy seeing it persuade others to be happy, even for a little while."
Kitchenware utensils also made wonderful weapons, but that could be left unsaid.
Oh, Mia's well aware of the last. She's heard of Luna going into battle with a frying pan.
"Well, let me know sometime and we can cook together."
She smiles wide after a moment.
"Oh, no food can make me quite as happy as when Draco makes lemon garlic seafood pasta with fresh fish from Lann. We took a trip there before we were expecting Cepheus and it was one of the best meals I've ever had."
So of course she wanted more when she was pregnant. Only not as much as grog loaf, strangely enough.
With everything that Miharu found out of before he entered the bar, well... this is all quite surreal for him, though it really ought not to be. "Make sure to stay," he says. "He would not like it if you didn't."
No matter how his mother died, he wishes still that she was here and not him. Better her than him, correct? It wasn't as if Miharu had ever achieved anything important.

Then Miharu looks at Cepheus warily. "That's Cepheus, I assume?"
Idiot.

The child is focused on not losing his octopus toy again and Miharu is ignored.
"He'll be five months old soon."

She reaches to tickle Cepheus and he laughs and tries to wriggle away from her fingers.
"I'm sure Cepheus wouldn't be the only one who wouldn't like it if I didn't."

"I know a guy that would be pretty upset about it. And I think you are a nice person."

She's flattered by this and by Miharu's assessment of her.
"Oh, thank you," she says, remembering Tom's advice from long ago when receiving compliments. "And I enjoy the time I spend with you."
And to think, Kaworu said Miharu's weird.
Well, Mia's a bit weird, too.

Mia softly smiles at him.
"Would you like to eat any more of your food? It'd probably be better while it's still hot."

"Oh! I'm sorry," Miharu says. Now he feels rude and guilty, yeah. "It is very good."
And so he eats a little more.

"I'm glad you like it. I hope it gets the same approval from my family."
She strokes Cepheus's hair again.
"Well, it'll be a while before he can have everything in it or tell me if he truly does like it."

This happened to Miharu, when he was a child. But it ended with an open and spilling flour bag over his head, attempting to be a ghost instead.
