Apparently DI Sam Tyler was not expecting the door to give way, no matter how hard he was shoving at it.

It means that once it does open, he goes sprawling, catching himself on hands and knees and taking a deep breath.

Luke is passing by on his way to the back door when he notices the other man go sprawling. He heads over, curious, and gets there just in time to get a full view of the corridor.

"So you finally go it to listen, huh? Lucky." He remembers what Bonzo said about getting into other worlds if invited. Bending over, he offers his hand with a smile. "I'm Luke. I tried for an hour yesterday to get it open. What's your secret?"

"Well, it could be that you're my imagination. Or that we're both each other's. That'd explain the terminal weirdness around here."

Sam doesn't look like the kind of guy who'd imagine Luke's world, really.

"And there's no way to prove any of it."

Sam does not manage to sound resigned.

"Which makes it better not to think about, all told."

"You've got a point there."

Kronos and the mission are still real enough for him, even if he is just a part of this British cop's dreams.

"What're you planning to do in this particular corner of your subconscious?"

"Me?"

Sam raises both eyebrows, rocking back on his heels.

"I was just plannin' on having a pint."

"Mind if I buy? I've got some money I need to use up anyway, and I wasn't doing anything at the moment."

Technically, he was on his way to examine the outside, but it was more out of a sense of obligation than anything else. Talking to someone stuck in the same situation is more appealing right now.

"Can't say I'd mind the company, but you keep your money for yourself. No sense wasting it if you're stuck, is there?"

Sam's smile is friendly, if polite.

"No sense tempting fate."

"Well....thanks!" If it's a little more uncertain than a nineteen year old being offered a free drink would be, it's mainly because Luke has a hard time believing anyone this - nice - could possibly not be covering up for something.

"So you're from England, huh?" he asks as they approach the bar. "Never been, but I've got a brother who says it's a great place."

Danny Evans, Hephaestus cabin. Luke and he bonded after Danny introduced him to John Cleese.

"Born and raised, me," Sam acknowledges.

"And where're you from?"

"New York. Born in Connecticut, but I had to leave when I was pretty young. Family issues." To put it mildly. "I'm working for my old school now, helping look after the younger kids and all that." Camp Halfblood may be a summer camp to most, but for him it was his home and school.

They arrive at the bar, and Luke eyes it speculatively. "So is there a drinking age to this thing, or does it just give out whatever anyone asks for?"

"Dunno," Sam says. "I heard tell she's sentient, and since the drinks pop up when you ask, I'm not thinking they're wrong."

He cracks a wry grin.

"Which is to say if you've got to ask about the drinking age, you're too young."

Luke sighs. "Just turned nineteen, so no dice for me, I guess."

They enforced the drinking age at Camp Halfblood. Luke guesses that if the sons and daughters of Greek gods have to obey the drinking age act, there's no reason the Bar would be any different.

"How about - Dr. Pepper, then." He takes it when it appears and sips before asking "So, how's the bar been treating you so far? Any complaints, aside from the random grabbing?"
