Milliways 6th Birthday Party Post

There is a group - well, more of a sort of rabble - of people playing kickabout on the expanse of green behind the bar. Goalposts have been marked out with the traditional piles of jumpers, more or less equally spaced ( Read more... )

Sameth hears the game in the forge and dives in.

He might have only read about football yesterday but he's played other sports he'll do fine. The trick is to remember not to tackle people.

Urquhart is already there, lurking by the black goal.

Goal-pile.

He's insisted on a line on the ground to determine what's a goal or not.

Getting the ball with just your feet is hard so currently Sameth is darting all over the field and sort of playing defense.

When a ball comes hurtling towards him and his goal, Urquhart takes a dive at it, catches it, then slides on his front over the grass, towards where Sameth is.

Helena was taking a run around the lake when the game starts. She pointedly ignores it until the point at which the only option is to stop running or run through the game. At that point she stands at the sidelines and watches.

Sameth was trying to get the ball from someone and ends up slipping on a muddy piece of ground that causes him to almost tackle Helena,

"Get out of the way!"

Of course for Helena it's the work of a moment to get out of the way. She probably didn't need to use a backflip to do it though.

"Watch what you're doing," she scowls straightening up a few yards away from where she started.

He missed the backflip because he ended up sliding in the mud slightly away from her,

"I was, that's why I yelled."

Sirona isn't playing, she's watching.

She wouldn't be able to decide for pink or black, anyway. She likes both colours.

Guppy is there in black, hanging on the sidelines, waiting for the ball to escape.

Donovan doesn't know much of the game; soccers is for Europeans, right?

But he does play for the pink side.

So the ball escapes from him rather easily.

Molly - self-declared captain of the pink side, mainly because she threatened to beat up anyone who disagrees - runs to get it back, booting the ball neatly towards the black goal.

Where Urquhart is waiting, crouched, taking goal-keeping rather seriously.

Seamus hasn't joined in yet - he suspects he probably will, at some point, but for the moment he's standing at the side watching with a small grin.

He's supporting the pinks. He just couldn't bring himself to support a team that wears a colour that absorbs heat in the summer. It's foolishness.

"They're all so very enthusiastic, aren't they?" Sirona says, archly, watching as well.

"Sure thing," Seamus replies lightly. "Why, is that a problem?"

"Oh no," Sirona says. "I quite like enthusiasm. At least there aren't any vuvuzelas."
