Cubefall isn't doing much for the good captain. Oh, he finds it intriguing, as good explorers should. Alien holidays are very noteworthy. But he has no real interest in being someone or something else (he was a woman once, anyway). 99's vidscreen shows up the moment she appears in the bar.

And, well, let's just say she's never had a problem taking on new guises, especially one that seems so familiar.

If one looks close enough, they might see former remnants of her normal face, but the body and clothes are almost drastically different.

Hel-lo, sixties.

"I have the impression that such tactics are common the would of espionage.

"Not that you would know, of course." He tries not to smile. (Maybe sharing her secrets will be fun.)

"No, never," she murmurs, and maybe there's just something about this particular face that can pull off the innocent look better than her own can.

It is strange to see how the same basic facial expression can look so different on two faces. Strange but oddly appealing.

"So after my death, Dr. McCoy...Bones...gave me a special facelift to make me look Romulan. They have pointed ears and arched eyebrows." Like Mr. Spock, only not.

"And how long did you have those particular features for? I'm assuming the procedure was reversed," she answers.

No pointed ears to be seen at present.

"Long enough to sneak aboard the Romulan ship and steal the device. I for one was glad to be rid of them." Even though the level of surgery was far beyond that done on 99, they still itched.

She smiles, trying to picture the pointy-ears look on him.

Lucky for Kirk, she fails.

"Bones agreed completely. I think I never got rushed into surgery so fast." Someplace in Jim's apartment on Earth, he has a tiny piece of plastic that was part of the implant. Bones was happy to part with it.

"And I'm sure you felt relieved to be back to normal," she adds.

There's a part of her that wonders how he would've reacted to her first face, the one she had before the plastic surgery, but that thought always ends up pushed away.

"And relieved to be done with the mission. Cloak and dagger just isn't for me.

"Never mind that while we did get the device, it didn't yield a defense against its use." Thus the ships still being represented by transparent Legos.

She picks up a transparent Lego that isn't on the map yet, rolling it between her fingertips.

"Well, it doesn't suit everyone."

"I actually sometimes wonder how...certain people...manage it."

"Well, those certain people have their jobs to do, just like you do yours."

She sets the Lego back down on the side of the map, smiling at him.

"Yes. Though I wonder if those certain people would be good in regular service." He has pondered this a bit, since it's his main frame of reference in life.

"I'm not sure," she admits.

"Some of my co-workers have a hard time retiring fully, or moving on to another choice of career."

"That is something we definitely have in common. Fact is, I don't know if I will able to retire myself."
