She looks up, grinning, and meets the woman's eyes. Figuring she must look mighty strange, she sobers up.
"Beggin' your pardon," she says, her voice a deep mahogany woodsmoke, rather than the soft birdsong it usually is.

There's a never-was, currently-male rock star loitering over by the bar, dressed in faded jeans and an artfully-shredded Velvet Underground t-shirt (and, to be honest, a little bit of makeup). Time's funny at the end of the universe, so he doesn't feel the least bit guilty about having a beer with breakfast.
"You look a little lost, honey."

"Y'could say I'm not myself," Kate says, masculine hands reaching to touch his throat.
God, does it ever sound weird to hear that deep voice in his ears when he speaks. He laughs, tickled pink.

"Well, I don't know who you usually are, but I'm liking what I see right now," he says with a smile. "Just go with it, that's my outlook."
