Darkness Falls

[ cont'd from here ]

There's an explosion at the bottom of the stairs, resounding throughout the entire bar, shaking dust from the rafters and setting all the bar glass to ringing.  The door frame shatters in an explosion of splinters, brick and plaster.  Two bodies, locked in combat, tumble through into the main bar.

One body is easily ( Read more... )

In the dark, Mel's focus shifts from get this thing dead to keep this thing away from patrons. She somersaults over herself along one of the beams, then turns and throws herself back at her pursuer, all stake and blade and boots and movement.

Give it no chance to notice anything but her.

Stake and blade clash with teeth and talons, and the very air bleeds with the ferocity of their meeting. Black blood slicks the floor, but the wounds are still only superficial, knitting as fast as they were made.

They come to rest in the middle of the floor, the beast flat on its back, one hand closed around the Slayer's throat. That same cold laughter rings out, blends into a throaty growl.

His touch at her throat becomes a vile caress, one sharp talon scratching a line in her flesh, watching it heal. Still toying with her before he rolls again, hurling her body across into the massive mahogany bar.

Glass shatters, but the wood is solid as stone, unmarred.

Mel's head whips back and forward with the force of impact, and she has just a second to rest a hand on Bar, in greeting, before kicking forward. Where she had been thrown through, now she leaps around, knowing where each chair, each table is before she even reaches for it.

In the corridor she knew the space. In the bar; in her bar, she and the space are the same, and despite the blood, the torn clothes and the sweat, she's grinning.

The beast is breathing hard, blood pounding, revelling in the thrill of the game. Dark eyes fix on the sweeping curve of the scythe as it slices towards him.

Time slows, and the beast twists through the air, moving with the blade, stretching its head back and letting it pass, cold steel so very close to parting flesh, too close.

It retreats, barrelling into a patron, sending a tray of baked goods and a body sprawling across the floor. The beast sees a flash of red hair and moves without thinking.

Harth would offer his help, honestly.

To whom is perhaps the question.

As it is, however, he waves the bottle of vodka in one hand and hollers, "Tear the rutter t'shreds, Mel!" from his position by the fire.

He doesn't judge.

We all need to relax somehow.

"Oh my God," says the wide-eyed vengeance intern, scurrying over as quickly as she can in her heels and pencil skirt, "is there seriously a hostage situation going on?"

She brightens.

"This is awesome!"

"I think it's 'cause he can't take m'sister without a human shield?" Harth confides smugly, taking a remarkably unrestrained swig of vodka for such a small person.

"But yeah. Pull up a seat!"

"Oh, she's your sister?"

Ava feigns innocence, but she recognizes Mel quite easily as being Mel, Vampire Slayer On Security.

Finally, a chance to see her in action without having to cause the disturbance herself!

"Thank you!" she adds, settling down beside him on the couch. It takes a moment of shifting in her restrictive skirt before she's comfortably situated, and in the meantime she can't help but notice that her new buddy feels a little ... demony.

"Yeah," she says dreamily, "in all the movies the dudes who take hostages are totally not into having actual showdowns. But shouldn't he be ... dragging her to the top of the Empire State Building or something?" She gestures in a way that is meant to convey dude is a giant ape-thing.

When all hell breaks loose, Urquhart rolls off the sofa he's been on and takes cover behind a heavy chair.

He gets out his crossbow, in case the monster really tries to harm Sunshine. She bakes good pastry, and shouldn't become food herself.

But it seems that Melaka Fray is more or less dealing with it. And Urquhart isn't apt to help random people just because they're there.

"Hello, Finvarra," Urquhart says, not taking his eyes away from the standoff. "I'll only shoot him if he really harms the girl. Her name is Sunshine, and she bakes the most excellent pastry in existence. That's worth defending."

At the loud bang, Guppy makes a girly squeal and dives under his table.

He gets his stun gun out and peers out; but he won't attempt to get a shot unless he can get a clear view of the vampire and not risk hitting Mel or Sunshine.

Of course Seras is just aching to get into that fight, she's got the weapons, but she's also wearing a very pretty dress that someone bought her and she doesn't want blood on it. http://www.promgirl.com/_img/PRODUCTS/320/PromGirl-493600309.jpg

She's under the table with her cannon and watching the show going on outside of her small fort. If they so much as get within a foot of her the monster is going to get blasted. She didn't notice the man in her fort with her.

Guppy only notices the girl with the cannon when her pretty dress catches the corner of his eye. He jumps and bangs his head on the table.

The ice cream he was eating before he dived falls off the table. It lands upside down with a SPLOT.

"Are you in this battle?" he asks Seras.

"No," she said, "Why would I be fighting wearing this?"

She indicated the dress.

"I was just don't feel comfortable leaving this in my room is all."

duh.
