He goes from brooding and thoughtful to dangerously intent in less than a heartbeat.

"You."

"You're looking good for guy who had his spine severed, darling.

"Very not dead."

"If you're expecting me to thank you for that, you're gonna be waiting a long fucking time," he snaps.

It's a moment before Ava decides to abandon her mostly demolished dinner (thanks for letting me know is folded up in a pocket) and, with wariness that does not translate to wariness except maybe in her eyes, approach him.

"... Hey."

A slight wave.

"Am I interrupting anything?"

He glances up from the screen, and shakes his head. "No, you're not."

A beat.

"Hi, Ava."

She stands awkwardly for a moment, before glancing between his face and the empty across-from-him seat and deducing that she may as well sit down.

How are you seems like a weak opener.

"... I guess we could continue to hash out our ongoing issues tonight if you want," she says, "but I actually have something a little more serious. Or. Current."

He closes the laptop and straightens up in his seat before leaning forward slightly. It's clear he's giving her his full attention.

"Okay."

Beat.

"What's up?"

It's been a week, and Andrew's made the arrangements for the day off and the transit spell to the Slayers' Academy.

When the front door opens to let him into Milliways, it's on the hallway just outside the Council Library, splashed with afternoon sunlight.

"Andrew, hey."

Sam sets his coffee down and waves.

"Hey," he says, and comes to a stop by Sam's table. "We're all set. Ready whenever."

"Now's fine-- or," he says, belatedly realizing, "-- er, if you wanted to sit down, have a drink or something first--"

[clear_eyed_lady]

"I do beg your pardon, but are you actually able to connect to the internet, here in the bar?" Athena does have her hands full with a stack of files- reports to grade- but she still manages to motion to Sam's laptop.

"Sorry," he says, glancing up at her with a warm smile. "No such luck. Whatever I've got in here's running from the cache."

[clear_eyed_lady]

"Ah." A slight smile back, with a nod. "I didn't think either Apple or Microsoft had progressed that far along in my own time, or any of the coverage providers, to be able to reach here- but odder things have happened."

This is Milliways, afterall.

"Apple'll probably get there first."

His grin is wry.

"Or at least I know someone who'd argue that until the end of time, which is sort of where we are, so..."
