Jim's taken Rachat all the way out by the mountains. The cold and snow seem to both neither rider nor horse. It's not a comforting thought, to say the least.
It may explain why, when the door shows up to Milliways in lieu of her D.C. apartment, that she walks through without hesitation and settles down at a corner booth to order a drink.
