That closest person happens to be Gus, and the last thing he's expecting is for a random woman to fall into his lap.

More startled than anything, he looks up toward the ceiling.

"What? This place ain't crazy enough? It's gotta start raining people now?"

"Not raining so much as just falling," 99 mutters, quickly pushing herself up and off the person she sort of just gave an impromptu lapdance to.

One look at her feet confirms her fears, and she tugs the broken shoe off with another quiet swear.

"Sorry," he says, perhaps a bit over-the-top.

Manners, man. Use them.

"You all right?" he asks after a few moments.

"Great," she mutters, though it's really not an answer to his question. "Just great."

And then she realizes he can probably hear her; at that point, she plasters on a quick and insincere smile.

"Oh, fine. Just looks like I've broken a heel, that's all."

Never let it be said that Starfleet Command doesn't produce sleeping aids more powerful than anything Bones keeps in sick bay. This can be demonstrated by the effects a current report on the state of Cardassian-Federation relations on its readers.

Which is why Jim doesn't see Laura come in. Not until she lands in his lap.

"Huh? Laura?" He's just coming to, and isn't really sure she's there. In a wig. And a gown that is perfect on her. Not that he minds, of course.

"Jim?"

Oh, this isn't good. This is so not good at all.

Of course, the first thing she'll try to do is save face; after that, obviously, comes the getting-off-his-lap part.

"Um, hi? You are here, right? I'm not dreaming?" He's pretty sure he's not, and he knows that isn't a really good question anyway since anything that happens in a dream or a hallucination would seem real.

Her first instinct, while still somewhat in spy mode, is to tell him that yes, in fact, he is dreaming, and maybe then she can make a quick exit.

But conscience dictates otherwise, and she sighs quietly.

"No, I'm here."
