"A Christmas Carol," he tells her, turning the book so she can see the cover as well. "Guppy's friend Penny gave it to me."

Max reached over Enzo's shoulder and grabbed a mint, which he popped into his mouth. This was followed by: "What is that?" and the sound of a mint hitting the floor.

Enzo, too late to stop him, snickers instead. "That's why you ask first, dude."

"That was..." Max doesn't have words. "That wasn't even food."

"I don't know that I would have picked Dickens for an introduction to User literature," Annabelle says with a smile. "How have you been?"

"I'm good! I wouldn't have, either," he says ruefully, "but Penny said something about the Ghost of Christmas Past and she said it'd make sense if I read this. But I'm not sure this makes sense."

"What are you having trouble with?" Annabelle asks.

"The Victorians are probably quite different from the folks you're used to meeting here," she adds with a wry grin.

"I just don't know what they're talking about half the time! What's Victorian? Is that a country?"
