There's no dramatic fanfare that precedes Leela into the bar today; no impressive entrance; no thrilling score.

Just one Cyclopean mutant who, upon seeing where her door has led her, leaps into the air with a "YIPPEE!"

We are mature today, yes.

[ooc: Yes, it's been a while. Be gentle. ^^;]

"Welcome back, I am guessing?" Marlowe looks up from his reading and coffee, watching the unusual-looking woman with curiosity.

"It did not change in some important aspects. Interesting women seem to still be rare but they exist." He is almost flirting. "I wonder if we would have ever met if I had been born a thousand years later or you a thousand years earlier."

"Well, if you were born a thousand years later, you would have a few hundred billion more people to contend with. And if I was born a thousand years earlier, I'm pretty sure they would have locked me up in some government facility, like they did to Zoidberg. Of course, I'm much better looking than Zoidberg, but still... I'd say our chances would have been pretty slim."

She sips her drink, and then smiles.

"But thanks," she adds, letting him know she did not miss the compliment.

"Leela." He smiles back. "You are very good looking, without need to compare yourself to anyone."

"I'm glad we agree, then," she winks.

Yes, winks. Don't think too hard on the image.

"But really... Zoidberg is hideous. I mean, really ugly."

And her friend! You can tell, right?

"Ugly enough to make me look good?" A bit of self-deprecating humor, to see how she plays along or not. "I don't know if it is my looks or my dry humor that seems to make most people off."

"Ugly enough to make Fry look good," she snarks.

Beat.

"But you don't need to compare yourself to anyone to look good, either."

"Thank you." He smiles and nods, taking a drink. "I was hoping my company would be agreeable enough." Hm, straight bourbon and good company, the detective is in a very good mood.

Marlowe's gaze stays on Leela's face, straying down to her lips and chin only: he is not the kind of guy to ogle a woman without direct permission.

Not that he really needs it. Leela would rather be ogled than sneered at, any day.

"I'm just glad to be back," she says, finishing off her drink.

"I am glad you are back." He nods, offering a refill, having finished his own drink.
