"I'm just organizing some of my research," Nikola says. "It's tedious, but necessary, and sometimes it helps me see things in a new light."

"This is hardly a hobby."

"It's my life's work."

There's not so much as a hint of irony or cynicism in his voice there.

"The concept of a life's work? I've had several now."

He thinks for a moment. "I suppose they could all fall under the category of 'electricity,' but...well, there was my work with the Five, and then radio, and then alternating currents, and then the death ray, and now...this."

There's a brief pause. "I can't imagine not having something I could happily do for the rest of my life."

"I did. Though it was purely for offensive purposes. Some of the media dubbed it a 'peace ray,' as its only practical purpose was to keep enemies from invading."

"In all laboratory tests, yes," Nikola says, smiling.
