Happy Hour

Jul 16, 2009 10:45

All Kara wanted was a soda. Which, truthfully, she does get, but it's accompanied by a napkin. She stares, reads it twice, and eyes the bar suspiciously. "Seriously? I don't know how to do this." Bar helpfully supplies a comprehensive bartender's guide, which takes maybe five minutes to read through.

Okay, then.

Riggins can definitely get behind a happy hour.

He slides onto a barstool and glances over at Kara through long hair.

"What's a Farmer's Cocktail?"

Kara's found, through observation here and elsewhere, most people can.

"Half an ounce Dry Vermouth, Half an ounce Sweet Vermouth, one ounce Gin and two dashes of Bitters. Stir all ingredients with ice, strain into a cocktail glass, and serve."

Yes, she just quoted from the book.

"What, d'you memorize it or somethin'?"

His lips quirk into an amused smirk.

"Something like that." Cue head tilt. "You old enough to be drinking?"

Cause he looks younger than Clark.

"I see you got roped in pretty quickly." Charlie is at eye level this time (having just come in from his morning jog and noontime meditation).

"Hey, Charlie." Kara gently pats the bar and tries not to hold a grudge. "Guess she thought I was responsible or somethin'."

Ha!

"Or she thinks it's funny. From what I hear, the head barman isn't very qualified, either." Funny that he's never actually met Mike, though.

"Not that I do much in the way of alcohol, but care to tell me about these drinks?"

"Does Bar have a sense of humor?" That hadn't occurred to her as a possibility.

"Well, Farmer's Cocktail has a lot of Vermouth, Gin and something called Bitters. The Sun Shake has orange juice, vanilla ice cream and milk, and Star Burst has strawberry and banana liqueur, peach schnapps, ice cream and milk."

Will's been tired of late and smiles when he sees Happy Hour,

"What's in a Sun Shake, milady?"

"Milk, ice cream and orange." For the most part. "Milady?"

"Then I'll make one." It's a testament to her concentration, and the whine of the blender, that she doesn't react right away to his time period. "Really? Like all those documentaries on the history chanel?"

And then, "Kara Kent. From Kansas." It's kind of an afterthough once she sets down his shake.

Clark doesn't make his way into the bar as much as he'd like anymore. It makes for one lonely farmkid, since this is where he and his girlfriend have to meet up. And she doesn't appear to be around tonight.

That's okay, though. He's heading back home when the specials board catches his eye. Those are his favourite colours, after all. And a Farmer's Cocktail? Sounds kind of fun--

"Kara?"

Kara is just about at the end of her shift now, casually wiping down the bar like they do in the movies that her cousin sometimes watches. And, you know, this has been fun. She met some nice people, and kind of got a not-really-date out of one of them, even if he's a little young.

... and speaking of cousins, her head shoots up, and the cleaning of counters is summarily forgotten.

"Hi, Kal." Pause. "I mean Clark."

Ever seen a supersped bear hug? You have now.

"Where have you been?"

Nnnnng. Okay, then. Kara isn't quite sure what's going on, mainly because he was kind of tiptoeing around her earlier. Well, not literally, but still.

"Here? I thought time stopped outside the bar."

It feels really weird, but she'll hug him back almost as tightly. Baby cousin and all.

"...That's stupid." Roxas' voice doesn't change inflection at the right times. He's like a little robot that just - doesn't - get the whole emotion thing.

"Or illogical. Take your pick." Kara can do the cold, unemotional Kryptonian thing with the best of them.
