Hodgins has spent more time drunk than sober since Angela left. He’s not proud of it, but there it is. He hadn’t even cared how he might pay for it later ( Read more... )

"That doesn't look even remotely safe to drink." The fourteen year old speaking looks surprisingly composed considering she seems to be alone at the bar.

Hodgins doesn't even seem to notice the girl's age. Or wonder about the appropriateness of her presence in the bar.

"I'm not sure it is," he replies.

That said, he picks up the glass, and takes a cautious drink.

The flavor is a three-way tie between mint toothpaste, Pinesol, and steak sauce.

Hodgins gags slightly. And then takes another sip.

"So of course you decide to test this empirically." She sounds amused.

"Well, I am a scientist. It's kind of a thing."

He gives her mental points for using the word 'empirically' correctly in a sentence.

Ingress walks by, stops, and then frowns.

"Hey, are you okay? You look sick. We know Healers who can help, maybe, if you're sick."

Hodgins blinks down at the the girl.

"Ingress. Hey."

Hodgins straightens up in his seat, making an effort to look okay.

"No, I'm not really sick. Just kind of a headache. Bar gave me some medicine. It's cool."

Because you don't tell a kid, Why yes---I've been drunk off my ass for the last two (three?) days.

He smells a little bit of drink. That's okay. She knows people get sick from drink sometimes. You couldn't grow up in London Below (or in Milliways) and not notice that kind of thing. Tom has had that bleary look some mornings, too.

"I'm glad you asked for some medicine. It's awful to be sick. Hey, the cockroaches are doing fine. I think. They seem happy, anyway."

"Yeah?"

Hodgins actually smiles a little. He hadn't anticipated doing that anytime in the near future.

"Are they keeping the snakes in line?"

He'd rather talk about bugs than his physical (and mental) state any day.

Hannah is dressed up and done up this evening, in a very short, very sequined dress.

(Classes are over, exams start next week, but tonight is for going out and celebrating. She only ducked into Milliways because she ran her last pair of hose and this was the quickest way to get more.)

"Dr. Hodgins?"

Hodgins blinks.

The dress is kind of bright. It's the sequins.

"Hannah?"

That's the idea, really, of the dress.

"Hey."

She eyes the burping glass of sludge.

"What the hell is that?"

Hodgins looks back at his glass.

"I have no idea."

He'd asked for the strongest hangover remedy. He hadn't bothered to specify for which species.

And....is it his imagination, or is it smoking a little?
